Job description

Job Summary:

The Senior Finance BI Developer is a role within the Finance department responsible for designing, building, and supporting high-quality reporting, analytics, and automation solutions that enable informed business decisions. This position partners with internal stakeholders to understand reporting and analytics needs, translates business requirements into scalable semantic models, reports, SQL queries, Power Query transformations, and Power Automate workflows, and applies Power BI, SQL, M code, data modeling, automation, and visualization best practices. The role serves as a experienced technical contributor within the Finance BI team, helping deliver reliable solutions, improve development consistency, support documentation and training, and provide technical guidance to other developers while escalating broader architecture, strategy, and governance decisions to the Lead Developer or Finance BI leadership.

Job Duties:

  • Exercises diligence with financial information by maintaining accurate results, safeguarding sensitive data, and supporting trusted business decisions
  • Develops, tests, deploys, and supports Power BI reports, semantic models, and related analytics solutions for Finance stakeholders
  • Troubleshoots issues related to report performance, refresh failures, data discrepancies, access issues, and user-reported defects
  • Maintains and enhances existing Power BI assets, including refactoring legacy reports, adding documentation, improving usability, consolidating duplicate reports, and reducing technical debt
  • Builds visualizations that take complex information and make it more accessible, understandable, and usable to derive insights and enable better business decisions
  • Creates complex Data Analysis Expression (DAX) measures to support the data analysis needs of visualizations
  • Develops and maintains SQL queries, views, and data extraction logic to support Power BI semantic models, reports, and data validation activities
  • Uses Power Query and M code to clean, transform, combine, and shape data from multiple sources into reliable, reusable reporting-ready datasets
  • Partners with business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify reporting objectives, and translate business needs into effective technical solutions
  • Applies established Finance BI development standards, data modeling practices, reusable templates, and governance expectations to ensure consistency and quality across deliverables
  • Contributes to reusable components, templates, and documentation that improve development efficiency and support team standards
  • Leverages AI technology responsibly to improve efficiency and insights while protecting data privacy, security, and compliance requirements
  • Designs, builds, monitors, and troubleshoots Power Automate workflows that support reporting processes, data collection, approval workflows, notifications, and operational efficiencies across Microsoft 365 applications
  • Understands business requirements and design data models to transform raw data into meaningful insights and compelling stories
  • Applies branding standards, intentional design choices, color palettes, and report design standards to create clear, consumable, and professional reports
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of Power BI updates and data visualization approaches
  • Creates and maintains data model documentation explaining calculations, parameters, relationships, security design, and refresh logic
  • Develops training documentation and user guidance for Power BI reports and related analytics solutions
  • Collaborates with data engineers and other technical partners to obtain data needed to support Finance BI data models
  • Manages workspaces, permissions, deployments, and Power BI apps in accordance with team standards and access control expectations
  • Design and support complex Row Level Security (RLS) within Power BI
  • Supports onboarding, training, and mentoring of team members on Power BI development practices, documentation expectations, and report support processes
  • Performs peer reviews of Power BI reports, semantic models, DAX measures, data transformations, and documentation before deployment
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree, required

Experience:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience within Data Analytics, Business Intelligence or Application Development, required
  • Experience working with Finance data, preferred

Software:

  • Strong SQL skills required
  • Two (2) or more years of experience with Data Modeling, Semantic Model Definition or Star Schema Construction, required
  • Three (3) or more years of experience with Power BI, required
  • Strong SQL query development skills, including joins, aggregations, views, data validation, troubleshooting, and performance-aware query design, required
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microsoft Power Automate workflows to support reporting, approvals, notifications, data collection, and process automation, preferred

  • Ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels and communicate complex concepts to senior and non-technical audiences
  • Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel
  • Solid organizational and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data design, data modeling, data management, and data visualization
  • Strong analytical and research skills related to the retrieval and organization of high volumes of information
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • A team player who takes initiative, supports team standards, and contributes to shared team success
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
