Job description

Point of Care Testing (POCT) Coordinator

Location: Houston, TX

Pay Rate: Starting at $39.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Dean's Professional Services is seeking an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented Point of Care Testing (POCT) Coordinator to support a leading healthcare organization in Houston, TX. This is an excellent opportunity for a laboratory professional with POCT experience to coordinate testing programs, maintain quality and compliance standards, support staff competency, and help implement new testing methodologies and technology across multiple clinical locations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support the delivery of safe, accurate, timely, and cost-effective Point of Care Testing (POCT) throughout the healthcare system.
  • Monitor POCT quality control programs, proficiency testing, inventory, compliance audits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of POCT processes and recommend improvements to testing procedures, technology, and workflows.
  • Coordinate the evaluation and implementation of new testing methodologies, instrumentation, and POCT systems.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain procedures and documentation for new or modified testing processes.
  • Coordinate staff training and competency assessments to ensure testing personnel meet established requirements.
  • Support POCT information system functions, including system maintenance, checks, operator management, and troubleshooting.
  • Review and investigate system flags, unidentified operators, patient identification errors, and other testing discrepancies.
  • Maintain approved operator lists and ensure testing personnel remain compliant with competency requirements.
  • Review POCT manuals and procedures at all locations at least annually and ensure documentation remains current.
  • Assist with preparation for regulatory inspections and ensure POCT processes comply with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate proficiency testing activities and follow up on results and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership, Pathology, clinical departments, and administrative teams to standardize POCT procedures across the organization.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clinical and laboratory staff to promote quality patient care and effective program operations.
  • Participate in POCT-related projects and continuous quality improvement initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or another related physical or biological science required.
  • Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience required.
  • Prior Point of Care Testing (POCT) experience strongly preferred.
  • Current MLS (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) certification required.
  • Experience with POCT quality control, proficiency testing, inventory management, compliance audits, and POCT information systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of Telcor QML preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Quick learner with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing processes and technology.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with laboratory, clinical, and administrative teams.
  • Knowledge of laboratory regulatory and compliance requirements related to Point of Care Testing preferred.
