Job Summary
The Marketing and Communications department at the University of Michigan-Flint seeks a motivated and creative Student Photographer to assist in capturing high-quality images showcasing the UM-Flint campus community. This position is ideal for students who are passionate about photography, eager to expand their skills, and interested in gaining hands-on experience in a professional setting.
Responsibilities*
  • Assist the lead photographer with campus events, portraits and promotional shoots.
  • Help set up and break down photography equipment.
  • Capture candid and supplemental images as directed.
  • Organize, catalog and edit photos when needed.
  • Support the Marketing and Communications Office with other creative projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications*
  • Must be a currently enrolled UM-Flint student.
  • Interest in photography and willingness to learn from a professional staff.
  • Basic knowledge of DSLR or mirrorless cameras (experience preferred but not required).
  • Basic flash or off-camera flash knowledge preferred but not required
  • Dependable, detail-oriented and able to follow directions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to monitor and respond to emails and text messages regarding assignments and schedule updates in a timely manner.
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to work independently when needed.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend assignments.

Modes of Work
Onesite
The work requires or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designed U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .
Work Schedule
  • Flexible schedule based on student availability (approximately 8-15 hours per week).
  • Reliability and responsiveness are essential as assignments and event coverage are often scheduled on short notice.
  • Must be available to cover assignments during evening and weekend hours when required by event schedule.

Background Screening
The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
