Job description

City : Fort Saskatchewan State : Alberta (CA-AB) Country : Canada (CA) Requisition Number : 46386 A Day in the Life: Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Journeyman Electrician/Instrumentation Technician provides electrical and instrumentation support to plant operations, including troubleshooting equipment, installing new systems, maintaining the safety of employees and facilities, communicating with vendors, keeping accurate records, and participating in emergency callouts. Position Details: The starting hourly rate for this position is $45 per hour, with the potential for a higher rate based on experience, qualification, and skills. Schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This role requires availability for overtime and on-call support based on plant demands. What You'll Be Doing: Perform all duties safely, demonstrate safety leadership, promote a zero-incident culture, and comply with government and corporate safety requirements. Maintain electrical equipment, PLC/HMI systems, power distribution, and related services within areas of expertise. Safely operate plant equipment, including forklifts, aerial work platforms, and skid steers. Perform preventive maintenance and respond to breakdown calls, including troubleshooting as required. Follow established work order processes, coordinate with vendors, order supplies, and maintain accurate records. Maintain work areas and the electrical warehouse in a safe and organized condition. Provide on-the-job training and guidance to apprentices. Take ownership of facility performance with strong attention to detail and quality workmanship. Work independently with minimal supervision. Perform other duties as required. Skills/Experience Requirements: Graduate of a recognized electrical program with a valid Interprovincial Journeyman certification. Graduate of, or at minimum a third-year apprentice in, an instrumentation program. Strong experience with instrumentation installation and troubleshooting is an asset. Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills, with strong teamwork orientation. Availability for on-call and emergency call-ins, including nights and weekends. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical, instrumentation, control equipment, and emissions monitoring systems. Ability to install and calibrate process control instrumentation, including transmitters, controllers, analyzers, and control valves. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff, management, vendors, and contractors. Ability to lead electrical contractors as required. Ability to read and update electrical blueprints. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC software (e.g., RSView). SAP experience is an asset. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required. Ability to work at heights or on elevated platforms. Unrestricted cross-border mobility. Ability to participate in on-call rotation as required.
