Job description

Route Delivery Driver

Summary / Objective:
The Route Delivery Driver is responsible for operating an efficient and cost-effective delivery route using a cargo van to support machine shop customers and service centers. This role ensures timely, accurate, and professional delivery of tooling and service products while maintaining exceptional customer relationships. The driver works closely with the Service Center Manager and Regional Sales Representative to support customer needs, coordinate freight transfers between service centers, and continuously improve route efficiency and communication. This position requires overnight travel 1–2 nights per week.

Essential Functions:

  • Safely operate a company cargo van to complete scheduled delivery and pickup routes.
  • Deliver service tools and related products accurately, efficiently, and on time.
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with machine shop customers.
  • Communicate proactively with customers regarding deliveries, scheduling, and service updates.
  • Coordinate daily activities with the Service Center Manager and Regional Sales Representative.
  • Monitor and improve route efficiency, time management, and delivery scheduling.
  • Transfer and coordinate freight between service centers as needed.
  • Verify and process freight settlement documentation accurately.
  • Assist in tracking transportation performance, carrier alignment, and delivery costs.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and driving standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned service vehicle.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:
This position operates primarily from a company service vehicle and regularly interacts with industrial and manufacturing environments, including machine shops and service centers.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent lifting, loading, and unloading of products and equipment.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:
  • Full-time position.
  • Core working hours are generally Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Flexibility in scheduling may be required based on customer needs and delivery schedules.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary.

Travel:
  • Travel is required 100% of the time during the workday.
  • Primarily regional travel with occasional overnight stays (1–2 nights per week).

Required Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in delivery driving, transportation, logistics, or customer service within a manufacturing, industrial, or service environment preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience operating cargo vans or light commercial vehicles preferred.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily routes efficiently.
