Job description

Position Overview 

Texas Joint Institute (TJI), one of the premier orthopedic programs in North Texas, is 

seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join the practice of Dr. Cyrus Abbaschian, a fellowship

trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in complex shoulder, elbow, hip and knee 

replacement, reconstruction and musculoskeletal oncology (sarcoma). This role provides 

broad exposure to orthopedic trauma, fracture reconstruction, limb salvage, tumor care, 

and multidisciplinary surgical management across inpatient, outpatient, and operative 

settings. 

Practice Highlights 

• Orthopaedic Trauma & Acute Fracture Care 

• Complex shoulder, elbow, hip and knee replacement & reconstruction 

• Musculoskeletal Oncology (Sarcoma) 

• Limb Salvage & Tumor Reconstruction 

• Pelvic & Acetabular Trauma 

• Periprosthetic Fractures 

• 50% Clinic / 50% Operating Room 

• Collaborative multidisciplinary care with trauma, oncology, anesthesia, rehabilitation, 

and hospital teams 

• No inpatient hospital rounding responsibilities with primary focus in the clinic and 

operating room. 

• Work-life balance supported through utilization of a collaborative team of 5 Physician 

Assistants dedicated to supporting Dr. Abbaschian's practice. 

Primary Responsibilities 

• Evaluate and manage orthopedic trauma, fractures, and post-traumatic complications. 

• Coordinate imaging, biopsy work-up, oncology referrals, and perioperative planning. 

• Conduct pre-operative evaluations and post-operative follow-up. 

• Provide patient education and continuity of care throughout treatment. 

Operative Responsibilities 

• First assist in orthopedic trauma procedures. 

• Assist in complex fracture reconstruction and limb salvage procedures. 

• First assist in musculoskeletal oncology and sarcoma resections. 

• Support operative workflow and multidisciplinary surgical planning. 

Role Highlights 

• Participates in a shared after-hours orthopedic coverage model as part of a 

collaborative team of five Physician Assistants supporting Dr. Abbaschian's practice. 

• Rotating evening and weekend after-hours coverage shared across the PA team. 

• Direct mentorship from Dr. Cyrus Abbaschian. 

• High-volume exposure to trauma, reconstruction, and orthopedic oncology. 

• Opportunity to practice within one of North Texas' leading orthopedic programs. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). 

• Orthopedic surgery experience preferred. 

• First assist experience strongly preferred. 

• Excellent communication, teamwork, and clinical decision-making skills. 

• Comfortable in a fast-paced academic-style orthopedic environment.
