Weekend Only Rn information

What is a Weekend Only RN?

A Weekend Only RN is a registered nurse who works exclusively on weekends, typically covering shifts on Saturdays and Sundays. These positions are designed to ensure continuous patient care during weekends when staffing needs may be higher or regular staff are off-duty. Weekend Only RNs may work longer shifts or have different compensation structures, such as premium pay, to account for their unique schedules. This role is common in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare settings that require 24/7 nursing coverage.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Only RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Only RN, you need an active RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and an ability to provide comprehensive patient care, often with significant autonomy. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and hospital protocols is necessary. Excellent time management, adaptability, and communication skills are crucial to handle higher patient loads and collaborate with weekend staff. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care during weekend shifts when resources and support may be more limited.

What are some common challenges faced by Weekend Only RNs and how can they be managed?

Weekend Only Registered Nurses often encounter challenges such as higher patient volumes, limited access to certain support staff, and the need for efficient communication with weekday teams. Managing these challenges requires strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Building rapport with colleagues and staying updated through thorough handoffs can help ensure seamless patient care and a smoother workflow during weekends.

Job description

Community Oversight RN (Regional)
We're looking for a Registered Nurse who wants more than one building and one routine. As a Community Oversight RN, you'll support 3 to 4 senior living communities as the go-to clinical resource for RN delegation, resident change of condition, and compliance. It's a great fit for an RN who's ready to step into a regional role, build leadership skills, and learn the ropes with support from a strong clinical team. This full-time, salaried position reports directly to the Regional Director of Health Services.
Why you'll love this role
  • You set your schedule. You build your own hours and week around the needs of your residents and communities
  • Variety every day. You'll be in your communities 4 days a week, with 1 home office day when the schedule allows
  • Travel that works for you. Day trips only, no overnight travel, and mileage is paid
  • A real path to regional leadership. Learn how multi-site oversight works while staying close to residents and care teams
What you'll do
  • Delegate and teach. Decide when, how, and if nursing tasks can be delegated to unlicensed staff, then train, supervise, and document in line with State Board of Nursing rules. Your teaching directly shapes the quality of care in every building you touch
  • Work with the Regional Team. Collaborate and work with the regional team members on strategic initiatives at your assigned communities
  • Be the clinical expert when residents' needs change. Serve as the RN resource when a resident has a change of condition, supporting assessment, documentation, communication with families and providers, and updated service plans. This includes participating in an on-call rotation for resident change of condition, so some weekend availability is needed
  • Keep communities survey-ready. Lead medication training, med cart audits, med pass observations, and pharmacy reviews. Dig into medication variance reports and partner with the Health Services Director and Executive Director on plans to fix issues and stay in compliance
  • Protect the record. Review electronic health records so assessments, documentation, and incident reports are accurate and timely, and coach teams where they need to improve
  • Help teams succeed. Collaborate on temporary service plans, prepare communities for regulatory surveys, and monitor plans of correction
What you bring
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of Oregon
  • At least one year of RN delegation oversight experience in senior living or a related health setting is preferred but not required
  • Skill in developing, implementing, and evaluating training plans, and a knack for teaching
  • Comfort with technology, including EHR systems
  • Availability for an on-call rotation, including occasional weekends
  • A safe, dependable vehicle and a valid driver's license for regular day travel to your assigned communities
