Job description

General Purpose

Coordinates and performs housekeeping services to ensure a high standard of cleanliness both inside and outside the community. Assists staff in completing housekeeping duties as needed.

Essential Duties

  • Supervise and support housekeeping and laundry team members.
  • Prepare employee schedules and ensure appropriate daily staffing.
  • Assign work and follow up to ensure duties are completed properly and on time.
  • Train, coach, and provide direction to department employees.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels for cleaning, laundry, and departmental supplies.
  • Order supplies while remaining within the department's budget.
  • Monitor departmental expenses and assist with budget management.
  • Ensure resident rooms, common areas, offices, and other facility areas are clean and properly maintained.
  • Ensure resident clothing and facility linens are labeled, handled, cleaned, and returned appropriately.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to resident, family, employee, and visitor concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing, maintenance, dietary, administration, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Follow facility policies, safety procedures, infection prevention practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with housekeeping and laundry duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Requirements

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Qualification

Education and/or Experience

  • Previous housekeeping and/or laundry experience is required.
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is required.
  • Experience with employee scheduling, budgeting, ordering, and inventory management.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to supervise employees fairly, professionally, and consistently.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Must be dependable, helpful, caring, and responsive.
  • Nursing home, healthcare, or long-term care experience is preferred.

Language Skills

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.

Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Fluent in written and spoken English.
