Job Title: Oncologist โ€“ Physician Services
Location: Providence, RI 02908
Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), Mondayโ€“Friday, 8:00 AM โ€“ 4:30 PM
Setting: 99% Outpatient, 1% Inpatient
On-Call: Required (evenings, weekends, holidays)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Board-Certified Oncologist to provide expert consultation and patient care in a predominantly outpatient clinical setting, with minimal inpatient coverage. The physician will work as part of a multidisciplinary care team, focusing on comprehensive oncology services including diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties (Approx. 90% Direct Patient Care):
โ€ข ย  ย Evaluate and manage oncology patients in outpatient and inpatient settings.
โ€ข ย  ย Triage consults and coordinate care with primary care and specialty providers.
โ€ข ย  ย Conduct comprehensive assessments, order diagnostic tests, interpret results, and develop treatment plans.
โ€ข ย  ย Provide discharge education and continuity of care planning.
โ€ข ย  ย Participate in tumor board discussions and other interdisciplinary meetings.
โ€ข ย  ย Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.
Administrative/Other Duties (Approx. 10%):
โ€ข ย  ย Participate in peer reviews, professional practice evaluations, and quality initiatives.
โ€ข ย  ย Maintain required documentation for compliance, credentialing, and audits.
โ€ข ย  ย Support coverage needs during staff absences or emergencies (with 2-hour replacement window if unavailable).
โ€ข ย  ย Comply with clinical scheduling and patient access standards, including clinic wait times and timely consult completion.
On-Call Coverage
โ€ข ย  ย Must be available for after-hours phone consultations.
โ€ข ย  ย Required to respond within 15 minutes by phone and report on-site within 60 minutes when necessary.
โ€ข ย  ย On-call schedule will be coordinated with internal oncology staff.
โ€ข ย  ย Overtime compensation applies for callback hours.
Licensure & Certification:
โ€ข ย  ย Current, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
โ€ข ย  ย Board Certification in Internal Medicine โ€“ Medical Oncology (ABIM).
โ€ข ย  ย Current BLS and ACLS certification (or equivalent).

Education:

โ€ข ย  ย MD or DO from an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school.
โ€ข ย  ย Proof of education and certifications required.
Experience:
โ€ข ย  ย Minimum of 2 years clinical oncology experience (inpatient and outpatient preferred).
โ€ข ย  ย Prior federal or VA healthcare experience is a plus.
Technical Proficiency:
โ€ข ย  ย Fluent in spoken and written English.
โ€ข ย  ย Familiarity with EMRs and oncology-specific documentation.
โ€ข ย  ย Must adhere to facility policies, medical staff bylaws, and quality standards.
