Automation Specialists - Upstream Oil & Gas - $69/hr - Carlsbad, NM

The Bergaila Companies is seeking experienced Automation Specialists to join their upstream oil and gas operations in Carlsbad, NM. This role is ideal for professionals who excel at solving control problems, improving system reliability, and handling PLC and instrumentation design. Candidates will be responsible for installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of automation and electrical equipment. The ideal candidate brings advanced technical skills and a strong safety record to support operational performance in the field.

What You’ll Need
  • Minimum 5+ years of Oil & Gas experience
  • 7+ years as an Automation Specialist
  • 2-year Instrumentation or Automation technology degree (GPA 2.5+) or equivalent technical experience
  • Mastery of well RTU designs, including programming and troubleshooting
  • Strong knowledge of analog and discrete instrumentation
  • Proficiency with serial and Ethernet communications protocols
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC programming (Function Block, Ladder Logic, Structured Text)
  • Experience with local HMI operator interfaces
  • Ability to work safely around instrumentation and electrical systems (including air fit test and aerial manlift)
  • Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation
  • Ability to travel to unassigned job areas as needed
  • Familiarity with PLC programming practices, standards, and MOC procedures
  • Proficient with CMMS (e.g., SAP) and MS Office
  • Knowledge of technical standards/guidelines (API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA, etc.)
What Will Make You Stand Out
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley and Rosemount
  • Ability to read and red-line Cause & Effects, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control narratives
  • Advanced troubleshooting of control networks (ControlNet, Ethernet/IP, Network Switches, fiber optics, RF communications)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience supporting design reviews and process hazard analysis
  • Preferred: 2-year Instrumentation or Automation technology degree (GPA 2.5+) or equivalent technical experience
  • Preferred seniority: Mid-Senior / expert-level automation experience in oil & gas environments
