Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking a highly experienced Pre-Construction Manager to lead preconstruction efforts for projects in Utah and Idaho. This role is critical in shaping project success from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with client goals, cost efficiency, and constructability. 

District Overview

Kiewit Southwest District specializes in heavy civil, transportation and water projects. We operate primarily in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada and Utah. Southwest's projects include a wide range of infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, runways, terminals, transit systems, power plants, water treatment facilities, dams, canals, wastewater treatment plants and tunnels. 

Location

This position will be located in the Southwest District. Near Salt Lake City, Utah initially, but must be open to travel. 

Responsibilities
  • Lead preconstruction planning for projects.
  • Develop and manage conceptual and detailed estimates using historical data, market trends, and cost metrics.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure design optimization and constructability.
  • Drive value engineering initiatives to reduce cost and improve project outcomes.
  • Manage and mentor a team of estimators and preconstruction professionals.
  • Interface with clients to understand project goals and present preconstruction strategies and budgets.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing, scope alignment, and risk mitigation.
  • Support proposal development and participate in win strategy sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with Kiewit's internal processes and industry best practices.
  • Lead risk analysis and contingency planning during early project phases.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in preconstruction or estimating, preferably CMGC, CMAR, PDB models.
  • Proven experience in infrastructure such as transportation, water, wastewater.
  • Strong understanding of self-perform construction and industrial project delivery.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., WinEst, Timberline, or similar).
  • Ability to travel as needed for project and client engagement.
