Job Description
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Occupational Therapist (Acute and Hospital at Home) at the Hyde Park campus and surrounding areas. This includes providing OT and in patients' home settings.
In this role, the Occupational Therapist performs Occupational Therapy services and assessments to UCM patients upon referral from a licensed practitioner. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for clinical care and program development within OT services and the supervision of patient care rendered by technicians and OT students as assigned.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Acute and Hospital at Home service lines. This role offers the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients and complex clinical presentations in a collaborative, academically oriented environment.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Conducts evaluations using appropriate tests and measurements to determine Occupational therapy problems, functional levels, and recommended treatment plans.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to establish patient disposition.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and applies patient care protocols that address the Occupational, psychosocial, and developmental needs of neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Includes patient goals in care plan.
  • Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities as needed.
  • Develops Occupational therapy interventions in collaboration with the patient/family, referring practitioner, and treatment team goals.
  • Competently performs appropriate Occupational Therapy techniques and procedures.
  • Ensures continuity of care through timely and effective written and verbal communication with team members and other treating disciplines, particularly when planning absences.
  • Attends rounds, conferences, and clinics as assigned, providing patient updates and discharge recommendations.
  • Identifies and recommends necessary patient care equipment prior to discharge and assists with procurement as appropriate.
  • Accurately documents evaluations, progress notes, and all procedures performed within established timeframes.
  • Completes compliant, timely, and accurate patient billing at the end of each day.
  • Instructs patients and families in home exercise programs.
  • Provides education on therapy diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plans.
Required Qualifications:
  • Requires graduation from an approved occupational therapy school.
  • Requires current occupational therapy license in the State of Illinois (or eligibility to practice) and NBCOT registered
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is age-specific/appropriate for the types of patients served. Basic computer skills to allow access to operations and patient data
  • Appropriate interpersonal skills necessary to enable positive interactions with patients, families, team members, referral sources, and outside contacts
