What is a weekend non CDL long distance driver?

A Weekend Non CDL Long Distance Driver is a professional who transports goods or passengers over long distances during weekends without needing a commercial driver’s license (CDL). These drivers typically operate smaller vehicles, such as vans, box trucks, or passenger vehicles, that do not meet the weight or passenger thresholds requiring a CDL. This role is ideal for those seeking part-time or flexible work, often involving overnight or multi-state trips. Duties may include loading/unloading cargo, ensuring timely deliveries, and adhering to safety and traffic regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend non CDL long distance driver?

To thrive as a Weekend Non CDL Long Distance Driver, you need a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, strong knowledge of road safety, and experience with long-distance driving. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, route planning apps, and vehicle maintenance basics is typically required. Reliability, strong time-management, and excellent communication help drivers handle schedules and customer interactions effectively. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring safe, timely deliveries and maintaining customer satisfaction over extended routes.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend non CDL long distance drivers, and how can they be managed?

Weekend non-CDL long distance drivers often encounter challenges such as fatigue from extended hours on the road, navigating unfamiliar routes, and maintaining effective communication with dispatchers or clients outside regular business hours. To manage these challenges, drivers should prioritize rest breaks, use GPS and route-planning tools to stay on track, and keep open lines of communication with their team for support. Adopting good time management and staying organized can also help ensure timely deliveries and a more comfortable work experience.

Job description

Non-CDL Delivery Driver

You show up on time, you deliver with care, and every customer on your route knows the job is in good hands. That is exactly who we are looking for.

Full-Time | Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM | Naples, FL | Tropic Supply, Inc.

This Is a Local Driving Position

You will spend the majority of your time behind the wheel, running established local routes and delivering HVAC and refrigeration supplies to the contractors and technicians who depend on us every day. You know your customers, you know your routes, and you are home every night. There are no overnight assignments and no long-haul runs. This is a role built on consistency, reliability, and showing up the same way every single day.

On days when your route is complete or volume is lighter, you will contribute in the warehouse. That is not the core of this job, but it is part of it, and we want to be upfront about that. When you are on the floor, you bring the same professionalism and attention to detail you bring on the road.

We are Florida's largest independent, family-owned HVAC and refrigeration distributor, operating across 23 locations for more than 50 years. We take care of our drivers, and we expect them to take care of our customers, our equipment, and our operation in return.

What You Will Do

On the road, where you will spend most of your time:

You operate Tropic Supply vans and box trucks under 26,001 lbs GVWR on established local routes, delivering HVAC and refrigeration supplies efficiently and professionally. You complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, verify product accuracy before every delivery, handle delivery documentation carefully, and safely load and unload cargo using lift gates, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. You take ownership of your route, your vehicle, and the impression you leave at every stop. How you represent Tropic Supply on a customer's job site reflects directly on this company and on you.

In the warehouse, when you are not on the road:

You contribute where the operation needs you. That includes pulling and filling orders, receiving and stocking inventory, supporting the team on the floor, and helping customers load product safely. This is not your primary role, but when you are here, you are fully here.

What You Must Bring

Driving Requirements — Non-Negotiable

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
  • Motor vehicle record subject to review and approval per Tropic Supply driving standards
  • Valid DOT medical certificate
  • Minimum six months of verifiable non-CDL commercial vehicle or box truck driving experience within the last three years
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English for safety compliance, delivery documentation, and customer interaction

Additional Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum one year of warehouse experience in a distribution, supply, or logistics environment
  • Experience with pallet jacks and warehouse equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs consistently throughout a shift and sustain physical activity in a non-climate-controlled environment
  • Strong attention to detail with a track record of delivery and documentation accuracy
  • Reliable, self-directed work ethic with no need for constant supervision

Preferred

  • Sit-down forklift certification or demonstrated proficiency
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Physical Requirements

This role combines active driving with hands-on warehouse and delivery work in a Florida environment. Candidates must be able to:

  • Operate a motor vehicle for extended periods throughout a shift
  • Enter and exit vehicle cabs and cargo areas, including stepping up and down repeatedly
  • Lift, carry, and position materials weighing up to 75 lbs unassisted
  • Load and unload cargo and operate lift gates where applicable
  • Push and pull loaded hand trucks, pallet jacks, and carts on various surfaces
  • Bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as required by loading, unloading, and stocking tasks
  • Stand and remain physically active during warehouse shifts
  • Work in outdoor and non-climate-controlled warehouse environments subject to Florida heat and ambient noise
  • Wear required personal protective equipment throughout the shift

Who Fits This Role

You are a professional driver who takes safe operation seriously and represents the company well at every stop. You do not take shortcuts on the road and you do not cut corners in the warehouse. You follow process correctly, ask when you are unsure, and take ownership of accuracy without being reminded. You are dependable, physically capable, and ready to build something long-term with a company that values the people who keep it running.

What Tropic Supply Offers

  • Company-paid employee medical and life insurance
  • Optional dental and vision coverage
  • Voluntary short-term and long-term disability
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid holidays and paid time off
  • Employee discount programs
  • Local routes with a consistent schedule and a familiar customer base
  • A stable, family-owned company where tenure is respected, performance is recognized, and you are part of something that has been built to last

Why Tropic Supply

We have been independently owned for more than 50 years because we take care of the people who make this company run. That means our employees, our customers, and the contractors who depend on us every single day. When you build your career here, you build it on something that is not going anywhere.

If this sounds like the right fit, we want to hear from you. Apply today and take the next step in a career worth building.
