Electrical Lead 2

Location: Gridley, IL 61744

Contract- 15 Months

Client- Nicor Gas

Position Overview

The Electrical Lead 2 plays a key role in overseeing electrical construction, commissioning, and startup activities across major utility and industrial energy projects, including gas compression stations, LNG plants, and fossil/industrial power facilities. This position requires 10+ years of related experience or a 4-year degree in a relevant field, with strong expertise in construction, engineering design, operations, maintenance, and startup/commissioning of electrical systems.

The Electrical Lead ensures safety, quality, and reliability across all phases of project execution, from installation inspections to commissioning and turnover.


Key Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain a safety-first culture in all field and project activities.

  • Inspect electrical installations for compliance with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes/standards.

  • Support development of project execution plans, procedures, and schedules; monitor progress vs. requirements.

  • Conduct and participate in project meetings: pre-bid, contractor orientation, safety (JSA), and status updates.

  • Verify installation, testing, commissioning, and operations of industrial electrical devices, equipment, and distribution systems.

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and operate systems during commissioning and startup phases.

  • Evaluate vendor drawings, schematics, and project documentation; ensure as-built drawings and updates are complete and accurate.

  • Coordinate with field engineers, contractors, vendors, and owners’ representatives to resolve installation and performance issues.

  • Ensure adherence to LOTO, Arc Flash, Arc Blast, and electrical safety standards during all tasks.

  • Train, mentor, and support operations and maintenance staff as needed.

  • May supervise other technicians, subcontractors, or client personnel.


Required Skills & Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of industrial power & process plant distribution systems, including:

    • Switchyards, switchgear, MCCs

    • Transformers (power & distribution)

    • Protective relays & control circuits

    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)

    • Generators & motors

  • Proficiency in installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical devices and controls.

  • Familiarity with construction contracts, labor agreements, and quality standards.

  • Adequate knowledge of OSHA standards, electrical codes, and environmental regulations.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, vendor drawings, and operations manuals.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills for interfacing with engineers, contractors, vendors, and plant staff.

  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, or weekends as project demands require.

  • Self-starter with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.


Qualifications
  • Education:

    • Required: 10+ years of related experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

  • Experience:

    • Extensive experience in Construction, Plant Engineering, Operations/Maintenance, LNG Startup, or Gas Compression projects.

    • Proven field leadership during commissioning/startup in a utilities or industrial setting.
