Job description

Iberia Medical Center (IMC) in New Iberia, LA is looking for team members who will help advance our vision to be the premier hospital of choice for patients, physicians and employees. IMC is currently hiring a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (Oncology & Infusion Clinic),Under the supervision and the direction of the Chief OperatingOfficer, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) providescomprehensive, evidence-based care to adult and geriatric patients withhematologic and oncologic disorders in the outpatient Oncology Clinic andInfusion Center. The NP/PA is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, treating,and managing patients throughout the cancer care continuum, including activetreatment, symptom management, survivorship, and supportive care. The NP/PAcollaborates closely with oncologists, infusion nurses, pharmacists, radiationoncology, surgical specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinarycancer team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. Responsibilities includetreatment planning, management of chemotherapy and immunotherapy toxicities,patient education, coordination of care, and timely documentation in accordancewith organizational, regulatory, and evidence-based practice standards.

WORK HOURS:
  • Fulltime: 40 hours/week; sometimes more; sometimes less, or as required to providedepartmental services as needed
EDUCATION
  • Graduate of a state-approved Advanced PracticeRegistered Nurse (APRN) program or an accredited Physician Assistant (PA)program.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice asan Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in theState of Louisiana is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPRcertification is required prior to completion of orientation and assuming theposition.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)registration with prescriptive authority is required.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), AdvancedOncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP), or equivalent nationallyrecognized oncology certification is preferred. If not certified at the time ofhire, certification is expected within two (2) years of employment, ifeligible.
  • Membership in the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology(APSHO) is encouraged for Physician Assistants and other eligible advancedpractice providers.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Oncology/hematology experience in anoutpatient or infusion setting is required.
  • Experience in management is desired but notrequired.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
  • Basic knowledge of the nursing / PA processand nursing / PA principles.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing / PA procedures.
PRINCIPLE TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs comprehensive medical examinations,evaluations, diagnoses, treatment planning, follow-up care, consultation, andpatient education within scope of practice.
  • Obtains complete patient histories, performsphysical assessments, and develops accurate and timely patient caredocumentation.
  • Provides education to patients, families,caregivers, and healthcare professionals regarding disease processes, treatmentplans, medications, symptom management, and health maintenance.
  • Supervises and/or coordinates the activitiesof assigned patient care and support staff.
  • Provides leadership and operational oversightfor assigned Oncology Clinic and Infusion Center activities, including workflowcoordination, collaboration with team members, and support of quality andsafety initiatives. Participates in the development,implementation, and evaluation of clinical programs, policies, and procedures
  • Practices appropriate safety, environmental,and infection prevention and control measures.
  • Makes sound clinical and operational decisionsregarding complex patient care issues and clinic operations.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and confidentialmedical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures,treatments, patient outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations inaccordance with organizational policies, The Joint Commission standards,National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Clinical Practice Guidelines,American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) guidelines, Oncology NursingSociety (ONS) standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality, security, andintegrity of patient and organizational information in accordance with HIPAAand organizational policies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of oncologypractice through continuing education, conferences, workshops, professionalliterature, and clinical training, incorporating evidence-based practices intopatient care.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians,advanced practice providers, nursing staff, pharmacists, and other members ofthe healthcare team to provide coordinated patient care.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, respect, andcompassion toward patients, families, and colleagues while promoting IberiaMedical Center’s Standards of Performance.
  • Participates in departmental, hospital, andservice line quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promotes a culture of patient safety andadherence to applicable Patient Safety Goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
