Job Summary:
PlanIT Group is seeking a senior network engineer responsible for all aspects of network projects, including hardware requirements, designing, and implementing standards based physical layer connectivity through complex routing protocols and Voice-over-IP implementations. The role involves troubleshooting network issues, configuring devices, and assisting in network architecture design and feasibility studies.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Network design, and configuration of OSPF, EIGRP, RIP and Static routing solutions.
โ€ข Configure and support wireless systems.
โ€ข Architecture design, and systems implementation, of middle-of-row to core connectivity.
โ€ข IOS layer 2 and layer 3 configuration and support.
โ€ข Firewall and load balancing support.
โ€ข Top-of-rack to middle-of-row connectivity.
โ€ข Top-of-rack to server connectivity.
โ€ข Server to middle-of-row backup, and backup to backup core connectivity.
โ€ข Enclosure network hardware including blade switches and pass-thru modules.
โ€ข Ensure corporate standards for IOS images are followed by reviewing devices to confirm they are running standardized IOS images.
โ€ข Upgrade images where necessary to the correct IOS image.
โ€ข Create and apply layer 2 and Layer 3 switch and core router configurations.
โ€ข Configuring the switched environment and ensure data transverses the appropriate path to core devices via spanning-tree.
โ€ข Responsible for installation, operation, support and maintenance of Cisco Catalyst 65XX and Nexus 5K/7K carrier class switches
โ€ข Applying appropriate access and distribution layer security measures.
โ€ข Take an active role in coordinating networking duplicated in San Mateo and Eagan. Work with counterparts in San Mateo.
โ€ข Coordinate communication, documentation and addressing between the data centers.
โ€ข Input IP addressing and DNS information for network devices and servers.
โ€ข Communicate addressing information with Host Systems.
โ€ข Document environments. Include detailed drawings of physical devices, connectivity through cores, and routing to intranet and internet sites.
โ€ข Document device access, addressing, and physical locations for network devices.
โ€ข Monitor and work ServiceNow trouble and change control tickets. Tickets involve a range of requests and issues relating to network connectivity, network addressing, moves, adds, and changes.
โ€ข Optimize network performance - Review network performance to identify and correct network issues resulting in less-than-optimal network performance.
