What does a weekend network analyst do?

A Weekend Network Analyst monitors, manages, and troubleshoots computer networks specifically during weekend hours. They ensure network systems remain secure and operational, resolving any technical issues that arise outside of standard business times. Their responsibilities include analyzing network performance, identifying potential threats or inefficiencies, and collaborating with IT teams to maintain optimal network functionality. This role is critical for organizations that require constant network availability, even on weekends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend network analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Network Analyst, you need a solid understanding of network protocols, troubleshooting techniques, and a degree or certification in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark), ticketing systems, and relevant certifications like CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA is often required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for this position. These competencies ensure rapid issue resolution and maintain network reliability during critical off-peak hours when support resources are limited.

What are the main challenges faced by a weekend network analyst, and how can they be managed effectively?

Weekend Network Analysts often encounter the challenge of working independently during off-peak hours, which can mean limited immediate support from other IT staff or vendors. Additionally, they may be required to troubleshoot and resolve critical network issues swiftly to minimize downtime, as many organizations schedule maintenance and updates on weekends. Staying proactive, maintaining thorough documentation, and having clear escalation protocols in place are essential strategies for managing these challenges effectively. Strong communication skills also help in coordinating with on-call team members and ensuring seamless handovers to weekday staff.

Job description

Our formula for success is to hire exceptional people, encourage their ideas and reward their results.
As a participant in our yearlong middle and back-office rotation program, referred to internally as our Leadership Rotation Network (LRN), you'll begin your journey with our immersive onboarding experience. This will reinforce your knowledge of market fundamentals, equipping you for the dynamic rotations that follow. Additionally, it offers an invaluable opportunity to build strong relationships with your fellow cohort members and integrate into the wider LRN community.
Following onboarding, you will rotate through up to three targeted middle and/or back-office teams such as Global Trading Operations, Treasury/Cash and Business Management. Upon successful program completion, you will earn a post-LRN role on one of the participating middle/back-office teams with the aim of alignment between both your career aspirations and DRW's business needs.
This position is not a trading or quant role and does not involve trading strategy or investment decision-making. Instead, examples of how we empower our LRNers to make an impact include:
  • Apply your acquired knowledge and skills to deliver tangible value through rotations in various middle and back-office teams
  • Analyze situations, develop solutions aligned with our strategic goals and respond constructively to feedback
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the business and gain a "behind the scenes" look at how our support functions work together cohesively
  • Effectively collaborate within diverse teams and build lasting relationships with cohort members and the LRN community
  • Lead projects and participate in daily processes, gaining insight into each team's scope and their collective role in supporting our trading business

You'll be right at home if you have:
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Finance, Business Analytics, Economics, or a related field, with a graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027
  • An insatiable desire to learn, a curious mindset, unwavering commitment to integrity, and proven ability to deliver both individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, effective collaboration and communication skills, a capacity for rapid learning and strong sense of urgency
  • The ability to work independently while fostering strong working relationships across various business groups
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large, structured data sets.
  • Foundational knowledge of SQL, Python, or similar data tools, with an ability and willingness to deepen these skills on the job
  • Ability to use AI-enabled tools to accelerate analysis, troubleshoot issues, draft queries or scripts, summarize information, and identify workflow improvements
  • Strong judgment in validating AI-generated outputs, protecting confidential information, documenting assumptions, and escalating uncertainty
  • Demonstrated analytical mindset, attention to detail, and ability to investigate data discrepancies, reconcile information across systems, and communicate conclusions clearly
  • Interest in automation, process improvement, and using technology to reduce manual effort and operational risk.
  • Work authorization in the United States without the need for sponsorship

Additional target candidate qualities:
  • An interest in the trading and technology industry, with a specific aspiration to build a career in the middle/back-office
  • A desire to live and work in Chicago, IL (this opportunity requires physical presence and is not offered remotely)
  • A solid understanding of financial securities and their markets
  • Prior internship experience in/exposure to middle or back-office roles and operations but no prior full-time work experience (LRN is a junior analyst leadership pipeline opportunity best suited for new grads joining the workforce for the first time)

If you excel in performance-driven environments and thrive on challenges, we encourage you to apply!
