Job description

We are looking for a welcoming and attentive Guest Services Representative to support a museum environment in Memphis, Tennessee. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys creating a positive visitor experience, guiding guests throughout exhibit spaces, and communicating clearly in a public-facing setting. The person in this role will help visitors navigate the museum, share key information about exhibits and the Civil Rights era, and contribute to strong service and sales results. Weekend availability is required, and the museum is closed on Tuesdays with one additional weekday off.
Responsibilities:
• Welcome visitors at assigned museum locations and create a friendly, positive first impression from arrival through departure.
• Provide clear directions, answer questions, and help manage guest flow throughout exhibit halls, entry points, and other public spaces.
• Share prepared information about permanent and traveling exhibits while building strong knowledge of the museum and the Civil Rights era.
• Support front-door and box office operations by assisting guests and contributing to overall service and ticketing goals.
• Monitor assigned stations to ensure coverage across public areas and maintain an organized, guest-ready environment.
• Deliver brief verbal remarks before and after theater presentations to help visitors transition into the museum experience.
• Assist with security-adjacent entry procedures, including greeting guests as they enter and helping guide them through screening areas.
• Remain standing for extended periods while maintaining a helpful, courteous presence in high-traffic areas.• At least 2 years of experience in customer service, guest services, retail, or another public-facing role.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to speak confidently to individuals and groups of visitors.
• Comfortable assisting guests, answering questions, and providing directions in a busy environment.
• Ability to work weekends on a regular basis and follow a schedule that includes Tuesdays off plus one additional weekday.
• Capable of standing for extended periods and moving between assigned stations during a shift.
• Detail-oriented demeanor with a service-oriented approach and a focus on creating a positive guest experience.
• Familiarity with retail support, sales interactions, or inventory-related environments is helpful.
• Reliable attendance and the ability to follow assigned talking points and operational guidance.
