POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a technical and driven professional, at a director level, who is independent, results-oriented, self-motivated and wants to be part of a dynamic organization. The ideal candidate will have experience in deregulated retail electricity space as well as a technical background. As part of the risk desk enabling the growth of Chariot/Hanwha Energy USA's business, this role will be responsible for running and maintaining all analytical tools needed for risk management activities in various US power and natural gas markets working closely with Supply and Technology teams. Monitor and report risk metrics regularly to senior management, the successful candidate will gain exposure to a wide range of businesses and products in a global environment. Liaising with Supply, Operations and support staff. This role will ensure that trading systems adequately represent the risk profile of the trading books, and that risk numbers are reported in an accurate and timely manner. Building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders across all levels and interacting regularly with Executive leadership to ensure the market risks arising from day-to-day trading positions are fully understood and managed appropriately within the limit framework.

This role will be located in Houston Texas, and the ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to the Houston office location. This is an onsite required role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the marking of all the relevant wholesale and retail price curves including implied hourly scalers and scarcity premiums,
  • Build and maintain monitoring checks to ensure compliance of all approved risk limits including position, mark-to-market and simulation based reports
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a global, matrixed organization, with resilience and a results-driven approach.
  • Analyze complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial information to supply team and management for decision-making purposes

  • Review, validate, and explain daily risk movements, key drivers, and sensitivities
  • Monitor commodity positions versus limits in accordance with approved risk mandates and escalation procedures.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Proven problem-solving capability with strong analytical skills including statistical analysis,
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Understands the importance of seeking out relationships and working with others toward a shared goal.
  • Domain Knowledge: Strong familiarity with North American energy markets (Power, Gas, or Environmental products), deregulated energy markets, modeling of physical assets, and the workflows of front / middle / back office associated with trading desks.
  • Technical Fluency - Deep understanding of real-time data delivery, APIs, and the technical requirements of high-frequency trading environments.
  • Builder Mindset - Demonstrated success in launching new products from concept to market dominance.
  • Excel in agile environments and have a track record of increasing deployment velocity.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills coupled with deep analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to multitask and work under multiple deadlines

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree Required in Finance, Economics or any other hard science quantitative.
  • 8 - 10 years of work experience in Energy commodities trading, commodities financing, financial markets with a minimum of six (6) years in a Market Risk, Management role.
  • Familiarity with trading systems, data structures, and interfaces, and an advanced grasp of financial market concepts/theory.
  • Ability to assess mathematical derivative pricing models within the context of real-world market conditions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and consulting skills, with the ability to form independent views on risk
  • Excellent communication skills, confident in engaging with senior business leaders and risk management colleagues.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced technological skills particularly financial modeling in Excel and Access
  • Development skills in SQL, R or Python
  • Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and/or CFA a plus
