Job description

Lead Technician – Structured Cabling

Location: Sparks, NV
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay: $25.00–$42.00/hour
Required Before Starting: OSHA 10


We are looking for an experienced Lead Technician to join our team in Sparks, NV. This is a hands-on field position for someone with experience installing and troubleshooting structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber.


As a Lead Technician, you will work directly on cabling installations while leading a small team of 3–5 Technicians/Installers. You will help ensure the work is completed safely, correctly, and on schedule, while also training and supporting less-experienced team members.


Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 3–5 Technicians and Installers on daily project activities.
  • Install, terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Read and interpret floorplans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets.
  • Set up and operate copper and fiber testing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot cabling systems and resolve technical issues.
  • Train and develop Technicians and Installers.
  • Ensure jobsite safety, organization, cleanliness, and productivity.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, and project teams.
  • Use Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Work days, nights, weekends, and occasional travel as project requirements dictate.
  • Travel as required by project demands.


What We're Looking For

  • 2–5 years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, or related construction.
  • OSHA 10 certification required before starting.
  • OSHA 30 must be obtained within the first 2 weeks.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Hands-on experience with both copper and fiber cabling.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and understand structured cabling systems, pathways, horizontal cabling, backbone cabling, cross-connects, and testing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical skills.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate a small team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends when required.


Preferred Certifications:

  • BICSI Installer 2 Copper
  • BICSI Installer 2 Fiber


BICSI Certified Technician must be obtained within 12 months of starting the position.


Travel: Travel requirements vary by project and region. The individual must be willing and able to travel as required.
