As a Weekend Merchandise Vendor, your workflow typically involves setting up and maintaining merchandise displays, assisting customers with product selection, and processing sales transactions during high-traffic weekend events or retail shifts. You'll often collaborate closely with event coordinators, inventory managers, and fellow vendors to ensure stock levels are sufficient and displays remain appealing. Communication and teamwork are essential, especially during peak hours, to provide excellent customer service and manage restocking efficiently. Job Title: Vendor Staff

Division: Business
Department: Vendor
Reports to: Vendor Manager
Position Type: Unpaid Volunteer
Location: Expected to be on-site during convention dates, including the day before and the day after for setup and teardown.

About Anthro SoCal

Anthro SoCal is a community-driven convention celebrating furry fandom through art, performance, gaming, and social connection. Our success depends on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteer team. Anthro SoCal was formally known as Anthro SoCal in 2026-2027.

Position Overview

The Vendor Staff member is the dedicated liaison and support system for the creators, artists, and dealers who make up the heart of ASC's marketplace. Operating directly inside the Dealer Den / Vendor Hall, this role focuses on ensuring that our vendors have a smooth, secure, and successful weekend. You are there to be a reliable helping hand, a watchful eye for any issues, and a friendly face for the vendor community. If you enjoy a dynamic role that keeps you on your feet and lets you work directly with passionate creators, this position is for you.

Time Commitment
  • Year-round: None
  • As convention approaches: Attend online staff meetings and trainings when requested
  • Convention weekend: On-site presence is required with flexible hours. Must plan to work the minimum volunteer hour requirement posted on the website
  • Pre and post-convention: On-site presence may be required to assist with setup and teardown activities the day before and the day after the event
Key Responsibilities

Your daily duties will focus on vendor care, space monitoring, and operational support:

  • Vendor Assistance & Support: Actively check in on vendors throughout the day to see if they need help, answer questions, or coordinate with convention leadership on their behalf
  • Booth Coverage (Bathroom Breaks): Provide short-term booth coverage for solo vendors, allowing them to step away for bathroom breaks or food without leaving their merchandise unattended
  • Dealer Den Patrol: Walk the floor regularly to monitor the hall for hazards, content policy violations, or overcrowding, ensuring a positive environment for both sellers and attendees
  • Incident Reporting: Identify any operational or security issues within the hall and immediately report them to Vendor Department leadership or the Safety Team.
  • Load-In & Load-Out Assistance: Help guide vendors to their designated spaces during setup and teardown, answering logistical questions about the space.
Qualifications Required
  • Vendor Collaboration: A strong willingness and ability to work closely with diverse vendors, maintaining a polite, helpful, and professional demeanor at all times
  • Physical Stamina: The ability to walk and stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time while patrolling the Dealer Den
  • Reliability & Trustworthiness: High integrity, as you will be trusted to watch over valuable merchandise during temporary booth breaks
  • Situational Awareness: A sharp eye for detail to spot potential crowd bottlenecks, hazards, or other risks in a busy room
Preferred
  • Convention & Attendee Familiarity: Prior experience dealing with convention attendees and an understanding of Dealer Den culture, dynamics, and etiquette
  • Conflict Resolution: The ability to handle stressful situations calmly, whether dealing with an upset attendee or an anxious vendor
What We Offer

While this is an unpaid volunteer position, we provide:

  • Free convention membership and staff perks
  • Staff hospitality (meals/snacks during your shifts at-con)
  • Exclusive staff events and social opportunities
  • Recognition in convention materials
  • Experience in event management and team leadership
  • A supportive, creative community environment
  • References and recommendation letters upon request

Anthro SoCal is committed to creating an inclusive environment. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
