About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Mon Power, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [MP]

This is a position in Bulk Material at Fort Martin.

JOB SUMMARY:

Primarily duties include equipment watch, deck hand duties on river and unloader operator. Operates bulldozers, excavators and other equipment in coal handling and yard work. Performs adjustments, troubleshooting, minor repair and preventative maintenance work on yard equipment and structures. Additionally, may be assigned to work with and direct employees in the operation of lime handling equipment.

 DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Operates yard equipment such as bulldozers and Front end loader; stocks, spreads, compacts and reclaim coal; 
  • Starts and stops and operates coal handling equipment and associated apparatus, including crushers, belt conveyors, stacker boom, belts and samplers, removing foreign material from belts or other parts of conveyor system. Inspects and checks and performs preventative maintenance on such equipment such as coal feeders; inspects, removes, installs and adjusts belts.
  • Operates barge unloader
  • Inspects, lubricates, cleans and services yard and plant equipment and reports abnormal conditions to supervisor; checks operation of coal handling equipment, makes adjustments and minor repairs to equipment.
  • Operates, checks and maintains coal and lime sampling systems,.
  • Processes samples as outlined in the Company's Business Practice; logs information on sample forms, tags and places samples in designated containers for shipment.
  • Keeps accurate log and communicates using phonetic alphabet and three-part communication.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintains workplace, tools and equipment in a neat and orderly condition
  • Reports abnormal conditions encountered or observed.
  • Receives instruction and training on Company safety programs and procedures, including, but not limited to lock-out, tag-out (LOTO), confined space entry, operation of fire-fighting equipment and applies this knowledge as required.
  • Directs and trains employees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to duties in lime handling.
  • Work as a deck hand following Coast Gard and company regulations and policies
  • Participate on station Loss Control Team. 

 Summary of Qualifications Include:

  • Must have at least a two-year technical degree in a related field from an accredited school or the equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Equivalencies may include: 
    • A combination of related coursework in an approved program and certification in heavy equipment/machinery operation
    • Three years' experience in power plant coal handling or related material/aggregate handling industries that includes heavy equipment operation
    • Military experience in any branch of the United States Armed Services applicable to material handling and heavy equipment operation
  • Must have passed the Edison Electric Institute's POSS/MASS test
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Willingness and ability to learn the operation and minor repair practices and procedures for coal, bulk material handling and other Yard equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to learn the operation, care and functions of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, high-lifts, front loaders, backhoes, conveyors and other Yard equipment.
  • Willingness to acquire additional knowledge and skills required for proficient performance of the duties of this position
  • Must be able to train and direct others, receive and issue orders in a timely manner that maintains harmony, teamwork and safety and obtain satisfactory performance from employees assigned to work with the operator.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work, including, but not limited to occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work in high places, confined spaces and a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions with frequent walking and climbing
  • Ability and willingness to work assigned rotating shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends
