Job Title: Linen Tech FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Job Summary


The Linen Tech is responsible for sorting incoming soiled laundry in preparation for the laundry process. Then manually feeding laundry into machinery, such as folding and ironing machines. Linen Tech staff works together as a team, and each member may operate different machines within a shift, as well as handle both wet and dry laundry as needed.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities


This position will involve working within a team of people performing similar duties. Along with one or more team members a Linen Tech may perform some or all of the following duties during a given shift:

  • Manually open bags containing soiled linen
  • Push or pull a cart weighing up to 250 pounds from the adjoining sorting area
  • Position cart on the floor-located scale to note bag weight
  • Move the cart up to the hoist loading area
  • Lift bag straps and attach them to the overhead hoist
  • Activate hoist control pushbuttons to initiate the conveyance of the bag
  • Sort linen by hand to identify and separate by type
  • Pick up and place linen in the appropriate bins
  • Perform job rotation as required
  • Push/pull a cart of clean linen to workstation
  • Identify the customer by the customer tag
  • Separate mixed clean linens
  • Feed linens into machinery for folding or ironing
  • Fold linens and mops by hand
  • Place linens on an automated conveyor
  • Place linen onto a metal hanger (cubicle curtains)
  • When necessary, stack linen as it comes out of folding or ironing machines
  • Visually and manually inspect linen to maintain quality
  • Demonstrates friendly and respectful behavior in the work environment
  • Maintain a clean workstation
  • Additional duties as assigned by Management or direct Supervisor
  • Perform job rotation as required

Additional Responsibilities:


On occasion, you may be requested to handle linen that requires special attention, including:

  • Counting folded linens and stacking them by count
  • Assisting in conducting inventories for accounts

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read comprehend and write in English and/or Spanish
  • Quality orientation and high attention to detail
  • Skilled in managing multiple tasks and priorities while effectively adapting to changing situations.
  • Strong teamwork skills - ready and willing to work closely with team members
  • Flexible and capable of working day shifts, with a willingness to rotate shifts based on production needs.
  • Willing to work long hours and weekends (Saturday/Sunday) as needed.
  • Compliant with background checks and drug screening, in accordance with applicable laws.

Physical / Mental Requirements

  • Physical demands include constant standing, frequent walking throughout the entire shift, and the ability to maintain balance while walking, standing, or crouching on various work surfaces.
  • Requires constant reaching above and below shoulder height, twisting, applying pressure, grasping (using fingers, thumbs, and palm), and loading machinery in repetitive motions.
  • Constantly lifting and moving objects vertically or horizontally throughout the shift, requiring significant use of the upper arms, shoulders, and back muscles.
  • Constantly pushing and pulling wheeled laundry carts of varying weights and sizes, including those up to or exceeding 250 pounds.
  • Constantly engaged in picking, grasping, and fine manipulation primarily with fingers throughout an entire 8-hour shift.
  • Repetitive hand movements include simple and power grasping, as well as pushing and pulling items.
  • Heavy work involves exerting force and frequently lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as constantly lifting up to 20 pounds to move objects.
  • Using upper arms and shoulders to pull, exerting force to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Ability to maintain productivity in a fast-paced facility where operations rely on a fully functional, full lifecycle computer system that manages time-sensitive production and utilizes conveyor systems to move products and materials through the cleaning process, ensuring the highest quality cleaning.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information.
  • Ability to remember and communicate routine, factual information.
  • Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology

Work Environment


Production areas of a typical industrial laundry facility, which includes working with and around large machinery, variations in temperature (non-air-conditioned work area), noise, humidity, and other hazards.

Worker is subject to sustained hot working environment (i.e., inside environmental conditions without cooling air conditioning and variable internal temperatures that can be within range of 90 degrees Fahrenheit and higher). Worker is exposed to noise sufficient enough to require worker to shout to be heard above ambient noise level.
