Job description

Description Under general supervision of the Foreman the Lineman performs skilled line work in the operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems for College Station Utilities in accordance with departmental procedures, processes, and established safety protocols. Principal Duties Duties require sufficient vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform assigned installation and maintenance duties as well as sufficient strength and stamina to climb, work at heights up to 90', and lift and use equipment within utility safety standards. This class level for the skilled electrical trade have completed the apprentice level of training and experience and incumbents are fully qualified to work on energized primary and secondary electrical transmission and distribution lines, related facilities, and equipment; incumbents work under general supervision performing highly skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the municipal electrical utility overhead and underground distribution and transmission system.

The Journeyman Lineman performs all duties of the Apprentice Lineman, in addition to completing the following more complex journeyman level duties: Perform construction, maintenance, and repairs on the electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems. Complete reports, documentation, and mapping information. Assist Foreman in training of Apprentice Lineman.

Perform other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to, act as Foreman in his/her absence as designated. Qualifications Required: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

Valid Texas Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date. Must maintain a residence within a 40 minute response time of the Utility Service Center within 6 months of accepting position. Available to work on-call, emergency response, weekends, and evenings.

Availability and willingness to participate, as needed in working overtime and/or on evenings and weekends. Ability to progress through skill plan program, within specified period of time, as defined in department's skill plan policy. Ability to perform essential duties in an environment that entails a variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures; working at heights of up to 90' above ground level; frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, climbing, and pushing/pulling; using hoist and dollies to lift and move heavy objects; and physically lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Possess basic level computer skills. Four (4) or more years of progressive electric utility line experience. Preferred: Graduate of a Lineman School or equivalent experience.

Journeyman Lineman - Department of Labor Journeyman certification or equivalent. Supplemental Information SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Drug Screening: Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy.
