Job description

The Library Assistant aids the Director of Library Services in the management and operation of the library. The primary duties include helping patients and/or staff locate books, checking books in and out at the front desk and shelving books according to their categorization. This position reports to the Director of Library Services.
Schedule:
  • Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00am to 4:00pm

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Opens and closes the library according to schedule and policies.
  • Checks library materials in/out and shelves returned items. Straightens the library shelves.
  • Answers library phone and performs administrative tasks, including making copies, filing, etc.
  • Assists library patrons in locating materials, using the computers and printing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use LibraryWorld to register patron borrowers.
  • Monitors all library equipment including computers.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
  • Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Programs.

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Past experience in customer service, preferred.
  • CPR BLS certification and CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification, after hire and before assignment to patient care.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport library materials (up to 25 lbs).
  • Must be able to reach materials on high and low shelves.
  • Ability to walk, bend, and possibly climb stairs as needed.
