Description

About the Role:

The Part-time Library Assistant position is the front desk attendant during weekend and/or evening hours and has the primary responsibility in providing oversight of the library and front desk. One position will work Saturday, 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. and one position will work Sunday, 9:45 a.m. - 4 p.m. Both positions may have the opportunity to work additional shifts as needed, including holidays. The schedule is subject to change to accommodate the academic calendar and staffing needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Apply principles of good patron service to all interactions with current and potential students, faculty, staff, alum and guests during weekend and evening hours.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide telephone and walk-in support to users on library services. Manage library transactions using OCLC WMS Library system.
  • Open/Close the library building weekends and/or evenings; conduct hourly rounds, gather/compile statistics; monitor and report facility and security issues.
  • Retrieve books, check in/out/renew books, reserve items and ILL materials and activate library accounts, process library overdue notices.
  • Utilize resources to maintain awareness of library and campus events.
  • Assist in training, managing and scheduling student workers.
  • Assists to facilitate collection management, including shifting, and circulation of library materials.
  • Performs other job duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager and/or department head. Schedule subject to change to accommodate the academic calendar and staffing needs.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service in a public-facing setting.
  • Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or coursework.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in an academic or public library environment.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software applications and technologies.
