Job description

Supervisors: Lesly Rudin & Jerome LaCorte
Position Role: Ensembles Library Assistants are responsible for assisting the Ensembles Librarian with the preparation of orchestra parts needed for rehearsals and Concerts of the CIM Orchestra, New Music Ensemble, and CIM Opera. This will include ensuring all parts are accounted for, erasing extraneous markings, as well as copying bowings. The assistants will also assist with the distribution of parts. This will usually consist of collaboratively choosing times and locations where ensemble members may sign out their parts. All parts must be signed out of the library so that all parts can be collected at the end of the concert. This position is designed for student workers interested in gaining introductory experience in orchestra library and music preparation work and includes all necessary training to complete work in a proficient manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Checking library collections and/or rented materials for correct number of parts and identifying any missing parts
  • Accurately signing out and in all ensemble parts
  • Preparation of ensemble parts prior to deadline (usually 2 weeks prior to first rehearsal)
  • Erase marked scores and parts
  • Copying necessary bowings and marks provided
  • Comprehensive understanding music preparation and conservation practices
  • Navigation of Orchestra Library Catalog and shelves
  • Shelve library materials according to catalog
  • Assist students with basic questions, referring to permanent staff as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned
Pay Rate: $20.00/hr
Qualifications:
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to mark music cleanly and clearly
  • Ability to work well with coworkers, supervisors, and patrons
  • Ability to manage and adhere to scheduling commitments
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Familiarity with general computer tasks and basic online searching
  • Ability to do light lifting and reaching
  • Willingness to work four hours per week minimum
  • Previous music preparation experience preferred

Dates of Employment: 8/24/26 to 5/6/27, or the date a student has earned their full WS award, or is no longer enrolled full time, whichever comes first.
Evaluation Procedures & Schedule: All Ensembles Library Assistants will be evaluated and monitored on an ongoing basis, with one formal diagnostic per year to be completed with supervisor.
