Digital Skills Assistant Librarian
Location: John McIntire Library (220 N. 5th Street Zanesville, OH 43701)
Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conducts technology training sessions for library patrons and staff on electronic devices and databases. Facilitates a comfort level with a variety of devices, equipment, and software including, but not limited to, smartphones, computers, 3D printers, and other basic and emerging technologies. Provides assistance to patrons in the use of library equipment and services.
  • Serves the general public seeking reference materials and services. Answers customer reference questions through use of print and electronic resources. Conducts subject searches and instructs customers on use and locations of materials and services. Retrieves library materials from other libraries to meet customer needs, and refers to external sources as appropriate.
  • Maintains responsibility for circulating technology and program-related equipment, with oversight by the Adult Services Manager. Duties include tracking inventory, maintaining equipment functionality, requesting supplies, and coordinating basic troubleshooting for hardware and software. Proactively monitors for equipment issues and initiates timely repairs or replacements to ensure smooth operation during programs and public use.
  • Maintains knowledge of available library resources and core curriculum requirements. Compiles subject bibliographies and lists of resources for internal and external use.
  • Plans, develops and conducts a variety of technology-centered, STEAM, and maker programs. Includes preparing or obtaining training materials.
  • Recommends Emerging Technology policies and procedures to the Adult Services Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of electronic devices including smartphones, tablets, Windows amp; iOS operating systems, etc. Social Media applications; training methods for a variety of learning styles; and emerging and innovative technologies.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision; interact with the public in a consistent, friendly and professional manner; develop tech centered programs and teach technology skills; organize work; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; maintain confidentiality of confidential and sensitive subject matter; troubleshooting issues.
  • Skill in teaching at various skill levels, experience with makerspace technology and equipment; operation of automated library equipment, online catalog and microfilm reader/printer; operation of computers and current electronic devices; use of the Internet; communicating effectively in written and oral form; routine typing.
Other Duties:
  • Maintains and increases knowledge and skills through reading, attendance at meetings, conferences, training seminars and in-service training.
  • Provides tours of the main library and outreach duties as assigned.
  • Conducts programs and information sessions with the community.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on boards and committees, as requested.
  • Performs general and basic equipment maintenance to ensure equipment operates properly for customer and program use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/License Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of technology or education or equivalent education and experience.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when working on the computer. The employee frequently sits for extended periods of time and occasionally stands and walks. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when using a computer screen. Employee regularly lifts items when moving technology between rooms or locations.
