Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the complete upkeep and smooth functioning of the laundry department. The laundry attendant should possess knowledge of all equipment and how it operates. The position also works closely with Housekeeping and Patient Care Assistants to ensure proper inventory levels are supplied to the floors in a timely and efficient manner.
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Formulates washing formula for stained and soiled loads of patients personal and all other laundry i.e. linens
Sorts dirty patient clothes and linen by product type.
Ensures the washing of clothing and linen is up to standard before placing into inventory.
Communicates any maintenance and upkeep issues to appropriate person relating to all laundry equipment.
Suggests methods for increasing laundry efficiency.
Organizes and sorts patients' clothes and linen in such a way that it is sorted by type, loaded on carts or placed in bags and returned to patient room or put up neatly on the linen storage racks.
Main duties include folding clothing and linen and terry cloth items in a neat pristine
fashion
Works in a fast paced environment with time constraints and timing deadlines related to production standards and requirements.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and
holidays.
Must demonstrate a positive attitude with an outgoing and friendly
personality towards all clients and staff
Multitasking with clothing and linen in numerous machines running at the same time
with different products
Ensures that the proper amount of linen is ready and available to
disperse to the client floors. Shortages of linen in the housekeeping storage areas should not exist.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to handle difficult situations in an objective consistent format; ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform and prioritize;
Ability to tolerate patients with medical or behavioral issues; able to take directions from numerous individuals on a given shift
 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
A secondary school diploma is preferred
Physical mobility and stamina required
Ability to follow instruction
Detail-oriented, Professional attitude is required
Ability to work independently.
 

Physical:
Requires standing for long periods of time and lift and carry up to 40 pound. While performing the duties of this job, it may be also required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
 

Experience:
Previous laundry or dry cleaning experience desired, preferably in a clinical or facility setting.
