Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Landscaping Specialist is responsible for mowing and maintaining campus grounds, basic landscaping, snow and ice removal as needed, and assisting with general facilities tasks. The position reports directly to the Director of Facilities. This individual will be responsible for leading the groundskeeping/landscaping efforts for the campus.

Responsibilities:

• Mow and trim lawns using riding and walk behind mowers, trimmers, and related equipment.

• Perform basic landscaping such as weeding, mulching, raking, and general care of shrubs, trees, and flower beds.

• Devise plans for seasonal planting of flowers and/or other plants.

• Remove snow and ice from walkways, steps, and entry areas using shovels, snow blowers, and ice melt products as directed.

• Perform routine maintenance on the landscaping equipment while maintaining documented logs as needed.

• Lead the effort the during off season regarding winterizing irrigation lines and fountains while communicating with contractors effectively as needed.

• Keep exterior areas free of trash, debris, and other hazards to support a clean and safe campus environment.

• Drive campus grounds looking for any damage to landscaping or irrigation systems and sidewalks or driveways. Reporting any damages to department leadership.

• Operate and perform routine checks on grounds equipment and tools to ensure they are clean, safe, and in good working order.

• Assist facilities staff with other maintenance tasks as needed, including light repairs, event setups, and special projects as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including but not limited to, housekeeping and janitorial tasks as needed.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Two (2) years of experience in landscaping or maintenance required.

• Knowledge of various plant material preferred.

• Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures

• Ability to navigate work order system and prioritize/delegate work tickets to facilities staff

• Ability to work independently with little direction

• Ability to meet schedules and timelines for projects and event setups

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

• Ability to work different hours when needed including weekends.

• Ability to work in all weather conditions

• Ability to lift 50lbs repetitively

• Ability to stand, kneel and squat for long periods of time

• Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license.
