Job Summary:
As the Underground Construction Laborer, you will ultimately be responsible for placing conduit and cable in trenches, installing underground construction components, and restoring worksites following project completion. You will support underground construction crews in executing daily field operations and deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality construction services. As the Underground Construction Laborer, your customers are internal construction teams, project managers, and telecommunications clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through safe work practices, dependable field support, and quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
  • Assist in loading and unloading all equipment, materials, and supplies required for daily operations
  • Safely operate tampers, jackhammers, core drills, concrete saws, and other miscellaneous construction equipment
  • Hand dig with shovels, picks, and digging bars to expose located utilities, access underground vaults and pedestals, and complete trenching activities
  • Place conduit and/or cable in trenches, splice conduit sections (install couplers), and install anchors, pedestals, vaults, and other underground infrastructure
  • Restore worksites by refilling trenches and holes, tamping soil, replanting plants or shrubs, and placing temporary asphalt where required
  • Drive company vehicles or operate construction equipment when appropriately licensed and authorized, and maintain assigned company vehicles and equipment
  • Travel overnight to various project sites as requested
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid unrestricted Driver's License
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

Experience
  • Previous underground utility construction or outdoor labor experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of the telecommunications construction industry preferred; on-the-job training provided

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with crew members, leadership, and clients
  • Ability to function effectively as an integral part of a team
  • Ability to safely lift and/or move 50-150 lbs. and stand or walk extended distances (1+ mile) over uneven terrain
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year
  • Ability to work safely in both standard and high-risk construction environments

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience and knowledge of underground utility construction
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred or willingness to obtain one
  • OSHA Certification

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 150 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain
  • Ability to travel overnight to project sites as required
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
