Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients in antepartum, labor/high risk, and triage settings. Key functions include fetal heart monitoring, managing high risk pregnancies, assisting with C-sections, and supporting vaginal deliveries. This role may also involve postpartum couplet care and newborn care during deliveries. Strong clinical skills, collaboration, and at least 2 years of relevant experience are required to ensure high-quality patient care in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide care in 4 antepartum rooms, 9 labor/high risk rooms, and 3 triage rooms.
  • Perform fetal heart monitoring and continuous assessment of high risk pregnancies.
  • Assist with Cesarean sections and support vaginal deliveries.
  • Provide postpartum couplet care (maternal and newborn) when perinatal staffing is low.
  • Participate in newborn care roles during deliveries, with bonus for additional newborn care skills.
  • Float to postpartum unit as needed to support patient care.
  • Document patient care and chart using Epic electronic medical record system.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant Labor and Delivery nursing experience.
  • AWHONN Advanced or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Additional newborn care skills beyond standard delivery support.
Special Considerations:
  • No on-call duties required.
  • Must be willing to float to postpartum unit as needed.
  • Every other weekend work required.
  • Scrub color navy blue provided for Labor & Delivery, Operating Room, and Cath Lab.
  • Work performed in an acute care hospital with 266 staffed beds, located near the beach.
  • Facility may call off staff once per pay period despite guaranteed hours.
  • Local radius for commute approximately 50 miles.
Scheduling:
  • Block scheduling assigned at manager's discretion.
  • Shifts cover antepartum, labor/high risk, triage, and postpartum units as needed.
  • Every other weekend shift required.
  • Start date ASAP.
