Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician – Sample Receiving & Accessioning is responsible for supporting the critical front-end workflow of laboratory operations by receiving, verifying, documenting, and preparing incoming specimens for downstream testing.

This role ensures specimen accuracy, traceability, and compliance by performing accessioning activities, quality checks, sample preparation, and documentation within established laboratory procedures. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced laboratory environment where accuracy and turnaround time are essential.


Key ResponsibilitiesSpecimen Receipt & Verification
  • Receive, inspect, and document incoming specimens and laboratory samples.

  • Verify specimen information against submission documents, manifests, and intake requirements.

  • Confirm proper labeling, packaging, and specimen acceptance criteria.

  • Enter specimen and quality control sample information into laboratory systems and documentation platforms.

  • Identify and resolve specimen or documentation discrepancies by collaborating with internal teams and stakeholders.

  • Prepare specimens for downstream laboratory testing workflows.


Accessioning & Sample Tracking
  • Accurately enter specimen information into laboratory information management systems (LIMS), documentation platforms, or scanning systems.

  • Assign and maintain unique accession identifiers for specimens.

  • Label specimens appropriately for testing, storage, or shipment.

  • Route specimens to the appropriate laboratory workflows while maintaining sample traceability.

  • Maintain accurate sample tracking logs and records.


Quality Control & Compliance
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure specimens meet collection, labeling, packaging, and submission requirements.

  • Identify, document, and communicate specimen discrepancies or quality concerns.

  • Support resolution of specimen-related issues with laboratory teams, program management, and client services.

  • Perform quality checks on laboratory deliverables and support secondary review processes when required.

  • Maintain compliance with laboratory quality standards, safety requirements, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines.


Sample Preparation & Processing
  • Perform basic sample preparation activities including centrifugation, aliquoting, and specimen processing.

  • Ensure proper storage conditions are maintained for various specimen types.

  • Maintain specimen chain of custody throughout processing and transfer.

  • Prepare and perform quality checks on shipments sent to external laboratory locations.

  • Support laboratory personnel with additional processing activities as needed.


Documentation & Laboratory Operations
  • Maintain complete and accurate records related to specimen receipt, processing, and shipment activities.

  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and quality requirements.

  • Ensure documentation accurately reflects current laboratory practices and workflows.

  • Support laboratory readiness through organized documentation and process adherence.


Customer & Team Support
  • Communicate specimen status, issues, and updates with laboratory personnel and cross-functional teams.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for laboratory testing workflow questions and specimen-related inquiries.

  • Support customer satisfaction by ensuring accurate specimen handling from receipt through final testing deliverables.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet testing timelines and operational goals.


Inventory Management & Process Improvement
  • Monitor specimen receiving and processing supplies.

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and coordinate restocking as needed.

  • Participate in training activities and continuing education opportunities.

  • Support onboarding and training of new team members.

  • Contribute ideas and participate in laboratory process improvement initiatives.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or related field required.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

Pay Details: $20.00 to $21.00 per hour
