Overview

As a Specimen Processing Tech, you’ll provide essential support to the Specimen Processing Department in a fast-paced, production-focused environment. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy accuracy, quality standards, and hands-on specimen workflow tasks—from data entry to processing activities that support timely laboratory completion.

Responsibilities

Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner

Support specimen workflow tasks, including A-station, presort, and pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory

Assist with imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting as part of specimen processing

Learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by the client

Maintain familiarity with compliance regulations related to test ordering, including changes that may occur on a daily basis

Communicate effectively with all levels of staff and support a positive, collaborative work environment

Adhere to safety and compliance policies and procedures, including practicing good safety habits in a biohazard environment

Keep the work area neat and clean while meeting productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times

Required Skills

Data entry background

Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour

Basic understanding of computers

Strong organization skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to ordered tests
