Work Shift: 11pm-7:30am Monday - Saturday (5 Days)
The Target Pay for this position is $20.67 an hour. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
Job Purpose/Overview
Senior Specimen Processors are responsible for processing samples that may require extra attention and experience such as manifest or problem submissions from clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Receives and prepares samples for distribution to main laboratory.
  • Removes specimens from transport bags and splits as needed for multiple testing.
  • Retrieves and prepares add-ons and rechecks.
  • Accurately process Avian/Exotic, manifest, and problem specimens at expected rate.
  • Meets department production goals per hour and shift
  • Records information about specimens. Label and numbers of slides, specimens, and submittals. Enters specimen data into database, scan tubes, process ZLOOK, and other postproduction duties as required. Verifies accuracy of information.
  • Completes Add Log/recheck specimens in a timely and thorough manner.
  • May assists Leads/Supervisors with training
  • Assist other lab personnel with specimen storage
  • Sort samples for distribution throughout the lab (Coggins, cytology, etc.).
  • Ensure Turn Around Times (TAT's) are met.
  • Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • Consults with senior peers on processing tasks to learn through experience.
  • Works on specimen processing tasks that are semi-routine in nature without deviating from SOP's.
  • Participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience required, preferably in a Science-related field.
  • 6 months of specimen processing experience preferred.

  • Reasoning and analytical skills to resolve issues
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions

Working Conditions
  • Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
  • Required to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Extended hours may be needed
  • Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE.
  • Work under close to moderate supervision.
  • Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
