Job description

Position: Laboratory Assistant
Department: Laboratory
Location: Glencoe, MN
Remote Work: No
Position Type: On-Call
Hours Per 2-week Pay Period:
Shift: Days
Schedule: Varies
Weekend Rotation: If needed
Holiday Rotation: If needed
Position Summary:
Responsible for the collection of blood and other specimens from patients for the purpose of testing and analysis. Performs basic laboratory functions that support the laboratory mission with an emphasis on customer service. Lab Assistant is cross trained to perform duties including but not limited to laboratory reception, specimen collection, processing of specimens, waived testing, Holter monitor registration and placement.
Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy experience/training desired.
  • Familiarity with medical office procedures is helpful.
  • Previous EMR experience helpful.
  • Phlebotomy and/or Certified Medical Assistant certification may be obtained but is not required.
    • Phlebotomy certification needs to be from an approved laboratory certification agency.
    • Certified Medical Assistant degree from an accredited medical assistant program and possess a current certification from the State of Minnesota.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able to provide excellent customer service.
  • Tack, diplomacy, empathy, and positive interpersonal skills are required in communicating with patients, co-workers, and health care professionals.
  • Patient confidentiality must always be maintained.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based computer systems required.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation decisions are made based off of several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification and licensure as well as internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of their hourly range.
