Description: 

  • A Kubernetes Engineer is responsible for managing and orchestrating containerized applications, ensuring system scalability, reliability, and performance.

Essential Functions & Duties:

  • Design and Implement: Develop and maintain Kubernetes deployments, specifically managing cloud-based microservices architecture in AWS EKS.
  • Automation: Automate deployment processes and scaling of applications to improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor cluster health, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the availability and performance of Kubernetes environments.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to assist with CI/CD pipelines and provide guidance on best practices for containerized applications.
  • Security Management: Implement security best practices, including network policies and disaster recovery processes.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-updated with new Kubernetes features and tools, integrating them into existing systems as necessary.

Skills, Qualifications and Certifications of Best Candidates:

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of Kubernetes concepts (pods, services, deployments) and experience with containerization technologies like Docker.
  • Networking Knowledge: Familiarity with Kubernetes networking, including CNI plugins and ingress controllers such as Kubernetes Gateway.
  • Configuration as Code: Experience with tools such as Helm and Kustomize for managing the application layer in Kubernetes.
  • Observability Tools: Experience managing and utilizing tools like Grafana, Istio, etc.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in Kubernetes environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with the customer and cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to Detail: Proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues before they impact production systems.
Required Education, certification & Experience:  
  • A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution fulfills the educational requirement . 
  • Note: The U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs located at https://amspub.abet.org/aps/name-search?searchType=institution identifies accredited postsecondary institutions. In Lieu of education requirement listed, candidate must have the required certification or will obtain required certification within 6 months of the start date. Certification requirement(s) for this role is AN IASAE II certification (CASP+CE, CLSSP associate) or CSSLP. 
Citizenship or Work Authorization Required: 
  • Ability to attain Federal Government Position of Trust. Ability to obtain a public trust clearance. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must pass a background investigation 

Compensation for roles at Synergy varies depending on a wide variety of factors including but not limited to the requirements of the role; education and certifications; knowledge, training, skills and abilities; level of experience; geographic location; and alignment with market data, law, and other business and organizational needs. As required by local law, the posted pay range represents the lowest to the highest pay that Synergy believes in good faith it might pay for this particular job, depending on the circumstances. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

A reasonable estimate of the current pay range is: $102,298.00 – $146,140.00

Essential Job Function Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position are critical in evaluating the qualifications and abilities of an applicant or employee. The physical efforts needed to perform the essential duties of this job 90% of the time are repetitive motions, grasping, holding, and finger dexterity of the hands, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, color distinction, and full visual abilities, hearing, talking, sitting, and use of IT equipment, phones, and office machines.

To a reduced degree, <30% of the time, candidates may have to stand, walk, lift 0-30 pounds, push or pull objects, climb stairs, bend, squat, reach, drive a car, or work overtime.
