Position Overview
This position supports plant operations by maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and inspection-ready facility. The Custodian plays a key role in housekeeping, sanitation, waste control, and general facility upkeep to help the site meet internal standards and external audit requirements, including SQF and GMP expectations.

Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the facility in top condition through routine cleaning, sanitation, waste handling, and support activities. This role helps ensure a safe, orderly, and compliant environment that supports food safety, product quality, employee welfare, and readiness for SQF and GMP audits.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Maintain production, warehouse, office, breakroom, restroom, and other common areas in a clean, safe, orderly (5S), and audit-ready condition.
  • Perform routine housekeeping and sanitation tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping, and sanitizing surfaces in accordance with site procedures and GMP standards.
  • Collect and remove trash, cardboard, and other waste materials from interior and exterior areas in a timely manner to prevent buildup and maintain compliance.
  • Operate assigned waste handling and cleaning equipment safely, including the baler and trash compactor, and report equipment issues or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Clean and sanitize employee welfare areas, including restrooms, sinks, mirrors, windows, break areas, and other assigned spaces.
  • Maintain exterior grounds, dumpster areas, walkways, and other surrounding areas in a neat condition to support pest prevention, safety, and audit readiness.
  • Restock cleaning and 5S related materials, sanitation supplies, paper products, PPE, and related items, and communicate replenishment needs to supervision.
  • Identify and report facility damage, sanitation concerns, housekeeping deficiencies, pest-related concerns, and any condition that could affect food safety, quality, or compliance.
  • Follow all applicable safety, chemical handling, sanitation, food safety, and quality procedures while completing assigned duties.
  • Support SQF audit preparedness by maintaining assigned areas in inspection-ready condition and following all housekeeping, sanitation, and GMP expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant cleanliness, operational efficiency, and compliance objectives.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, manufacturing, sanitation, or industrial cleaning experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and manage time effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high housekeeping standards.5S experience, preferred.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, standard work procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated safe work behaviors and the ability to work around cleaning chemicals, machinery, grease, and oils.
  • Ability to support shift needs, including overtime and occasional weekend work when required.
