Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Kitchen Equipment Service Technician to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide range of commercial kitchen equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to ensuring the functionality and safety of kitchen operations in restaurants, hotels, and other foodservice establishments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation: Install and set up commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, refrigerators, fryers, dishwashers, and ventilation systems, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and local codes.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Diagnosis and Repair: Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and gas-powered kitchen equipment, identifying issues with components such as motors, thermostats, wiring, and gas lines.
  • Testing and Calibration: Test equipment functionality post-repair or maintenance, calibrating systems to meet operational standards.
  • Customer Service: Communicate effectively with clients to understand equipment issues, provide repair estimates, and explain maintenance procedures.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of tools, parts, and supplies, ensuring availability for timely repairs.
  • Documentation: Complete detailed service reports, including work performed, parts used, and recommendations for future maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, or appliance repair preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience repairing commercial kitchen equipment or similar mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment, including gas, electric, and refrigeration systems.
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
    • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
    • Familiarity with electrical and gas safety standards.
    • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Certifications: EPA certification for handling refrigerants (preferred); CFESA Certification; valid driver’s license required.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, time management, and customer service skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed on-site at client locations, such as restaurants, hotels, and institutional kitchens.
  • May involve exposure to high temperatures, noise, and potentially hazardous equipment.
