Job description

Summary

The Mechanical Designer position will execute on assigned design, drafting, testing, and development tasks for mechanical systems used in some of the most demanding operating environments in the world. As a Design Engineer at SkoFlo, your work will directly influence chemical efficiency, environmental impact, and longโ€‘term reliability for subsea and surface oil & gas operations. This position ensures any projects under their control will further SkoFloโ€™s reputation as the world premiere supplier of chemical injection components. The person in this role will be a key ingredient in our energetic culture that thrives on producing creative and valuable market solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates and completes 3d models, engineering drawings, structural analysis, data sheets, and work instructions as needed to meet dynamic project specifications.
  • Effectively applies our methodology and acts as a role model for design standards.
  • Identifies and communicates resources needed for project success.
  • Manages multiple tasks and project needs with minimal supervision.
  • Documents lessons learned and creates actionable improvement plans / CARs.
  • Ensure end user requirements are documented and implemented.
  • Reviews and maintains design models and drawings, ERP Bills of Materials, and production procedures to support manufacturing efficiency and quality standards.
  • Review, understand, and implement customer specifications, industry standards, drawings, tolerance stack-ups, fit studies and reliability studies.
  • Support production sustaining activities by designing test systems and trouble-shooting production issues.
  • Interface with engineering, purchasing, sales and manufacturing.
  • Work with machine shops in-house and outsourced regarding clarification of scope, quotes, manufacturability and priorities for projects.
  • Acts as a first point of contact for resolving NCRs, quality assurance, and technical sales information.
  • Recommend improvements to product and/or manufacturing and test methods.
  • Performing routine test procedures and data collection in our in-house testing lab.
  • Drive โ€œZero Defectโ€ philosophy within SkoFlo.
  • Model company culture and values.
  • Comply with all safety rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred with 2 plus yearsโ€™ experience in product design. An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Knowledge or understanding of petrochemical (or similar regulated industry) practices and requirements would be a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engineering documentation to ensure compliance and / or performance meeting contract specifications.
  • Experience in refining product knowledge, and improving product value, through methodical testing and data collection.
  • Experience with quality critical engineering-based operations desired.
  • Experience and knowledge of Lean and driving continuous improvements is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work hands-on with mechanical and / or fluid power is a plus.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 facility a plus.

Equipment and Software Skills

  • AutoDesk Inventor or SolidWorks, preferably in a controlled vault environment.
  • Epicor ERP system experience would all be an advantage.
  • FEA and / or fluid dynamics simulation experience is a big plus.
  • General business software such as MS Office, to include MS Project or similar.
