Atlas' portfolio of offerings includes oilfield logistics, distributed power systems, and the largest proppant supply network in the Permian Basin. With a focus on leveraging technology, automation, and remote operations to enhance efficiencies, Atlas is centered around a core mission of improving human beings' access to hydrocarbons that power our lives and, by doing so, maximizing value creation for our shareholders.

How You Will Make an Impact:

The Staff Mechanical Design Engineer serves as the senior technical lead for mechanical and enclosure design within the power group, with responsibility for standards, design methodologies, and execution of complex mechanical deliverables. This role provides technical authority across commercial and industrial (C&I) projects, including site layout modeling, piping and installation design, constructability-driven mechanical development, and field-ready engineering solutions that support procurement, fabrication, installation, and long-term operational reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as final technical authority for mechanical and enclosure designs, deviations, and risk acceptance.
  • Own and approve mechanical and enclosure standards, design criteria, and analysis methodologies, including structural evaluation, airflow and pressure drop, and acoustics.
  • Define and govern enclosure design philosophy for manufacturability, reliability, ventilation performance, and serviceability.
  • Lead architecture-level decisions for high-risk or novel enclosure applications and establish validation and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead investigations into complex field failures or recurring mechanical issues and define corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide technical governance across multiple projects and advise leadership on mechanical risk, execution strategy, and capability gaps.
  • Lead mechanical design execution for commercial and industrial (C&I) projects, including development of field-ready deliverables and practical engineering solutions.
  • Develop and maintain site layout models to support project planning, equipment arrangement, constructability, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Develop 3D models and layout concepts using SolidWorks and other applicable design tools, including Revit, with the ability to expand into Inventor and Plant 3D as project and business needs evolve.
  • Own development of piping and installation diagrams for engine systems, balance-of-plant equipment, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Perform pipe sizing calculations and lead piping system layout, routing, and mechanical design development based on project design criteria, operating requirements, and constructability considerations.
  • Develop mechanical specifications, bill of material inputs, and supporting design documentation required for procurement, fabrication, installation, and revision-controlled release.
  • Develop engine haul arrangement models, equipment integration layouts, and constructability reviews for packaged and site-installed systems.
  • Coordinate with electrical, controls, fabrication, sourcing, construction, and field teams to ensure designs are accurate, executable, and aligned with project requirements.
  • Interface with vendors, fabricators, and internal stakeholders to drive design clarification, technical alignment, and implementation of mechanical deliverables.
  • Support expansion of internal 3D modeling capabilities for equipment, piping, and engine haul arrangements as engineering tools and workflows mature.
  • Mentor Senior and Engineer-tier Mechanical Design Engineers and strengthen discipline capability and technical culture.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME standards, UL 2200, and applicable project, customer, and internal requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
  • Recognized expertise in enclosure design, manufacturability, and mechanical integration for engine-based systems.
  • Demonstrated ownership of standards and final technical decisions.
  • Proven leadership in high-impact troubleshooting and systemic issue resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience developing mechanical layouts, piping and installation diagrams, and field-ready design deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience performing pipe sizing, developing mechanical system layouts, and applying constructability principles for industrial or engine-based applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks and experience using SolidWorks PDM for design documentation, file control, and revision management.

Preferred:

  • Experience establishing analysis methodologies and standards at organizational scale.
  • Experience with Revit and other 3D modeling tools used for site layout, equipment arrangement, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Experience with Inventor, Plant 3D, or similar tools for equipment, piping, and installation modeling is preferred.
  • Experience supporting vendor coordination, fabrication, and field implementation of mechanical systems.
  • Experience with multi-site deployment and field-driven design governance.

Reporting Relationship:
