Job description

Manufacturing Internship  

This job is specifically designed for recent High School graduates. The role is a 3-month rotational internship meant to grow skills, expand knowledge of sawmills and gain experience across departments.  The internship includes hands-on learning, mentorship and exposure to multiple functions, while preparing you to successfully move into an entry level role, positioned to pursue a career in one of the departments at the site. 

At the end of the 3-month program, employees may be eligible to move into a full-time position to continue their development and apply for open roles across departments. 

Compensation & Benefits: 

  • Pay Rate: $21.00 per hour
  • Overtime: Eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable laws
  • 401(k): Eligible to participate immediately upon hire with 6% company match and 100% vesting

Goals of the internship:

  • Skill Development: Gain a set of foundational technical and communication skills by rotating through different functions
  • Business Acumen: Receive a comprehensive view of the company’s operations through mentorship and exposure to the business 

The internship is a blend of common entry level responsibilities, working on one-time projects, observing skilled trades, and participating in any team or department activities. The rotations are designed to provide you with an understanding of the overall operation of the business. Additionally, you have the chance to participate in:

  • Weekly mentorship time with experienced employees or managers 
  • Time in multiple departments with both hands-on training and observation.
  • Opportunity to contribute to production goals for the mill.

Areas of Exposure:

  • Production (Hands-On)  Pulling lumber, stacking, sticker setting, packaging, cleaning
  • Observations:  Grading, Maintenance, PLC, Rolling Stock, Boiler Operation, Saw Filing

Qualifications: 

  • Recently graduated from high school or completed GED; Minimum 18 years old.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand up to 10 hours a day, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, stoop and bend at the waist, and move equipment as needed.
  • Perform repetitive work for 10+ hours a shift.
  • Must be comfortable in year-round outdoor temperatures, in loud conditions, with airborne particles (sawdust), and working around moving mechanical equipment.
  • Move quickly, consistently and safely to keep up with the current flow of production.
  • Team player and highly self-motivated individual.
