Weekend Internship Jobs in Lexington, VA (NOW HIRING)

Full‑time Registered Dietitian position at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital in Lexington, VA covering inpatient, outpatient, and cardiac rehab services. Weekend coverage 6–8 times per year and one day per week remote coverage are allowed.

Sign‑on bonus eligible: $15,000 per applicable guidelines (external applicants only).

• Plan and provide medical nutrition therapy and client education for patients ranging from neonates to geriatrics in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Conduct individualized nutrition assessment and evaluation, implementing appropriate medical nutrition therapy approaches.
• Provide advanced and specialized nutrition support, communicating recommendations for changes in patient treatment plans to physicians and hospital staff, documenting recommendations, monitoring changes, and tracking patient outcomes.
• Facilitate the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols related to nutrition care.
• Evaluate and track data for outcomes and related performance improvement measures, making recommendations to improve quality.
• Develop and oversee patient and staff educational materials regarding evidence‑based medical nutrition therapy.
• Serve as the nutrition resource to the healthcare team.
• Respond to inpatient consults and outpatient referrals, establishing appropriate plans of care.
• Evaluate the nutritional status of all ages and recommend appropriate nutrition interventions based on age‑specific patient populations.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately assess patients of all ages.
• Develop, implement, and document in the medical record the nutritional plan of care in collaboration with other health care providers with follow‑up.
• Document results of assessments, intervention recommendations, and nutritional progress in the medical record.
• Identify and document evidence‑based criteria to support a physician’s diagnosis of malnutrition.
• Coordinate documentation with Clinical Documentation Integrity medical coders to accurately reflect clinical care.
• Calculate, evaluate, and document the assessment of specialized and advanced enteral and parenteral nutrition support according to ASPEN guidelines.
• Collaborate with inpatients and outpatients to identify individualized educational needs, coordinating individual and group instructional activities.
• Serve as the nutrition educator for individuals and groups; plan and provide presentations for the public, civic organizations, business and industry, and healthcare care providers regarding nutrition topics.
• Conduct media interviews and write articles for publication.
• May serve as clinical preceptor for dietetic interns.
• Collaborate with physicians and other team members to develop and implement evidence‑based nutrition protocols and educational programs to meet target population needs.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings established for inpatient units.
• Act as a liaison between nutrition services and other departments.
• Cooperate with management and staff to meet the goals and objectives of the department.
• Develop and execute performance improvement and quality assurance projects with the Director of Clinical Nutrition.
• Monitor and report quality and productivity on a regular and timely basis.
• Assist the Director of Clinical Nutrition in coordinating activities of flex resource staff.

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics or equivalent.
• Four years of experience required for individuals who graduated before January1,2024; Master's degree required for new Registered Dietitians who graduated after January1,2024.
• Completion of an American Dietetic Association approved internship or clinical experience required.
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (R.D.N.) licensure required; Certified Diabetes Educator (C.D.E.) desired for the Diabetes Education Program for Critical Care, Oncology and Trauma Services.
• Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (C.N.S.C.) preferred.
• Registration eligible to become an RDN required; must work under the supervision of an RDN and attain registration within 90 days of hire.
• Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required.
• Keyboarding skills required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
• Must successfully complete orientation and competency for position.
• Knowledge of growth and development applicable to all age groups.
• Ability to develop nutrition plans, educational materials, and protocols guided by evidence‑based practice.
