Educational Sign Language Interpreter – School-Based (Seattle, WA)

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Educational Sign Language Interpreter to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a school setting in Seattle, Washington. This role is essential in facilitating clear and effective communication between students, teachers, and peers to ensure full access to classroom instruction and school activities.

Position Overview

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter provides 1:1 American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for students, translating spoken language into sign language and vice versa. This role supports academic success, engagement, and inclusion in the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time ASL interpretation for classroom instruction, discussions, and activities
  • Deliver 1:1 interpreting support for assigned student(s)
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and staff
  • Support student participation in academic and extracurricular activities
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of practice
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to meet student needs
Minimum Requirements
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or related field (preferred)
  • State Board of Education Sign Language Interpreter Certification (as applicable)
  • EIPA certification (if required by state/client)
  • RID Certification (if required per regulations or contract)
  • Strong understanding of professional and ethical standards
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
Additional Requirements (if applicable)
  • Current CPR certification
  • TB screening (questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray)
  • Current health certificate per state or contract
