Responsibilities

The Division of Medical Physics at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, is seeking a board certified Medical Physicist to join our dynamic and growing team and help support our current clinical practice as we prepare to open the first in the nation Carbon-Ion Therapy Center.
Candidates will have a record of accomplishment that demonstrates clinical productivity in therapeutic medical physics, including clinical practice, project management and educational excellence. Experience in a proton or carbon center is not required.
Current equipment in the Department includes four Varian TrueBeam linacs, a Varian Edge for SRS, a Mobetron for IORT, three Siemens CT simulator with wide bore and 4D capability, a Elekta Flexitron HDR remote after loader, Eclipse, ARIA and a full complement of dosimetry and detector systems. Treatment procedures include all conventional radiation therapy plus specials that include IORT, TBI, TSET, HDR, SRS, SBRT, BH, and LDR eye plaques.
Construction of the new Radiation Oncology building and equipment installation of the particle therapy equipment has been completed.  The equipment includes the first Carbon Therapy system in North America, a 2-gantry proton facility, MR and CT simulators, and conventional photon linear accelerators.  Proton therapy starts in early 2027 and carbon in 2028. 
The Medical Physics Division currently has nineteen medical physicists and is still growing. The Division also includes a medical physics residency program. The Division is a seasoned and cohesive team responsible for all aspects of therapy physics in support of clinical practice, education and research in radiation oncology.

Qualifications

Board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics required, as well as a Masters or Doctorate Degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or related field from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of Radiation Oncology treatment planning, Dosimetry, Radiation Physics, radiation safety techniques for handling radioactive sources. Must have a thorough understanding of theory of detection and measurement of ionizing radiation, radiation biology, radiation protection, health physics, clinical radiation dosimetry, and Federal and state guidelines pertaining to the medical use of radiation. Must have ability to use current software applications. 

Additional Considerations: Exposure to ionizing radiation. Must be able to communicate and work effectively with all personnel both within and outside the institution. Must be able to tolerate occasional stooping, pushing, and lifting as required. Ability to adjust hours to responsibilities is required.
