Job description

The per diem Chaplain will join the Spiritual Care Department at Mount Auburn Hospital located in Cambridge, MA.
The per diem position entails being on call every other weekend, off-site, responding to requests to come in to support patients and/or family members. An additional 10-12 hours can be folded in weekly on-site work.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follows hospital and department policies with special attention to safety, dress, attendance, punctuality and display of ID badge. 

  • Subscribes to hospital’s mission statement, code of ethics and standards of conduct. 

  • Handles all work related information in a confidential manner. 

  • Recognizes and respects each patient’s right to privacy. 

  • Understands that looking up patient information not needed for job duties is prohibited and is grounds for immediate dismissal. 

  • Treats customers with courtesy and compassion and responds to requests in a timely manner. 

  • Works effectively with members of the team so that they meet constantly changing needs and deliver care that is customer oriented and cost effective. 

  • Performs work responsibilities while staying in compliance with all the applicable laws, rules and regulations.  Understands and agrees to uphold the Hospital Compliance Plan. 

  • Complies with all Infection Control and precaution guidelines, wearing appropriate gear and complies with CDC Handwashing Guidelines. 

  • Faithfully completes all annual educational requirements and vaccination policies. 

  • On call every other weekend, Friday 5pm – Monday, 8am. 

  • Available 10-12 hours during the week for patient visits, if needed. 

  • Provide spiritual care as needed.  

  • If on call, come in when requested, to provide patient/family/staff support, prayers and other rituals as needed and appropriate.  

  • If a patient is end of life and staff request a visit from priest to provide Sacrament of the Sick, call priest on call and facilitate a visit.    Respond to pages 24/7. 


Requirements:

  • MDiv or equivalent. 

  • One unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) 

  • Familiarity with interfaith practices and ability to work in an interfaith setting with interfaith colleagues. 

  • Willingness and ability to support an interfaith population. 

  • Personal involvement in a worshiping community 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and work collaboratively with other health care and service providers. 

  • Ability to communicate well with other chaplain team members. 

  • Ability to work independently. 

Pay Range:

$21.00 - $28.26

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
