About this Job The mission of the Department of Insurance is to enforce the insurance laws and regulations of the state impartially, honestly and expeditiously. The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking an Insurance Specialist 1/2 to join the Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity/SHIP Division. This division administers the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIP) and plays an important role in assisting Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers, and the public by providing unbiased information, counseling, and outreach related to Medicare coverage and benefits.

In this position, you'll research Medicare policies and federal regulations, provide counseling and outreach, and assist individuals with Medicare-related programs. Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: As an Insurance Specialist 1/2 in the Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity/SHIP Division you will/may: Provide counseling and education to Medicare beneficiaries regarding Medicare coverage options, including Parts A, B, C, and D, as well as supplemental coverage. Assist individuals with enrollment in Medicare, prescription drug plans, and Medicare assistance programs.

Research Medicare policies, federal regulations, and related programs such as Medicaid and Social Security to provide accurate guidance. Communicate with beneficiaries through one-on-one counseling, telephone, written correspondence, and group presentations. Conduct outreach presentations, participate in health fairs, and support community education efforts throughout the state.

Collaborate with nonprofit organizations, community partners, and government agencies to expand program outreach and services. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security programs and policy changes. Document client interactions and services provided in required reporting systems and maintain accurate records.

Prepare travel authorizations, expense reports, and required documentation for outreach activities. Participate in training initiatives, including "train-the-trainer" efforts for SHIP counselors.
