Job Purpose

Summer Intern - Data and Analytics Office (DAO). The ideal candidate will draw on his/her business and technical training and experience to address complex data needs by providing analytic insights, creating and executing technical solutions in support of our Data Quality initiative. 


Qualifications

The role is entry level (1-3 years relevant experience). College level training and similar work or personal experience in one or more of following areas: programming using R and Python; Statistical analytics; Analysis of social data combined with operational data; data visualization tools; data integration using extract, translate, and load (ETL) or extract, load, and translate (ELT); SQL and other query tools. Relevant skills/experience include applied mathematics, stastics, calculus, quantitative or statistical methods and techniques, data mining, informatics, data science, programming, computational algorithms, information retrieval (i.e. organizing, structuring data), working with databases or data structures, machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, software engineering, and/or systems design analysis.  Key competencies include (in bullet points):  (1)  Develop tools and techniques for analysis  (2)  Analyze data using appropriate tool set  (3)  Evaluate research for practical application  (4)  Document research processes, analysis and results  (5)  Identify and analyze anamalous data  (6)  Analyze data using mathematical/statistical methods  (7)  Analyze problems to determine technical solutions  (8)  Learn quickly and rapidly arrive at working solutions  (9)  Apply mathematical or computational methods and lines of reasoning  (10)  Clean and process semi-structured and unstructured data  (11)  Decide what procedures will be required to solve technical problems  (12)  Effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences  (13)  Develop conceptual designs or models to address requirements  (14)  Identify new and existing products, technologies and/or architectures to solve design, development and operational problems  (15)  Identify new applications of known techniques  (16)  Review the nature and quality of cost data sources and evaluate their relevance to analyses; recommend action for improvement and use of sources to establish relationships with providers  (17)  Translate practical mission needs and analytic questions related to large datasets into technical requirements and, conversely, assist others with drawing appropriate conclusions from the analysis of such data  (18)  Make informed recommendations regarding competing technical solutions by maintaining awareness of the constantly shifting requirements associated with the collection, processing, storage and analytic capabilities and limitations of the organization.
