HVAC & Refrigeration Technician

The HVAC & Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and general building systems. This role supports both commercial and residential operations by ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems function safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes while delivering high-quality customer service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems, including heating units, air conditioners, ventilation systems, and commercial refrigeration equipment.
• Diagnose system malfunctions and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance.
• Clean and service system components (e.g., coils, drain lines, cooling towers, condensation pans).
• Calibrate HVAC and refrigeration systems for efficiency and accuracy.
• Operate tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments safely and effectively.
General Maintenance, Plumbing & Electrical
• Perform general facility maintenance and repairs to ensure safe and efficient building operations.
• Troubleshoot and repair basic plumbing systems, including leaks, clogs, fixtures, and minor pipe replacements.
• Conduct basic electrical repairs, including replacing outlets, switches, breakers, lighting fixtures, and troubleshooting low-voltage systems.
• Assist with installation and maintenance of electrical components related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Inspect building systems and identify maintenance needs beyond HVAC scope.
• Perform minor carpentry, mechanical, and structural repairs as needed.
• Ensure all plumbing and electrical work complies with applicable codes and safety standards.
• Coordinate with licensed specialists for complex plumbing or electrical work when required.
Operations & Administrative Responsibilities
• Maintain accurate documentation, including service records, refrigerant logs, labor hours, and materials used (e.g., ServiceTitan or similar systems).
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, office staff, customers, and other trades.
• Obtain customer signatures and complete work orders accurately and timely.
• Track and submit timecards, receipts, and required paperwork in accordance with company procedures.
• Check in with dispatcher to communicate job status and updates.
• Request equipment and supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
Safety & Equipment
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and fall protection equipment.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in safe working condition.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
Team & Customer Support
• Maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with customers, vendors, and team members.
• Assist other technicians and trades personnel as needed.
• Inform stakeholders of work progress, issues, and completion status.
• Respond to emergency service calls, including participation in an on-call rotation.
Logistics
• Transport tools, equipment, and materials to job sites.
• Travel as required, including occasional overnight stays (company paid, if applicable).
Additional Duties
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support efficient operations.

• EPA Refrigerant Certification
• Valid Driver’s License (insurable)

Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–3+ years of HVAC/refrigeration experience (commercial experience preferred).
• Completion of an HVAC apprenticeship program preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Basic math skills (fractions, percentages, ratios).
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
