Job description

Job Title: Septic Helper

Classification: Hourly (non-exempt)

Reports To: General Manager

Date of Revision: February 2025

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with septic system maintenance and cleaning
  • Perform manual labor including digging and lifting equipment
  • Learn industry best practices from experienced team members
  • Follow safety protocols and company procedures
  • Maintain equipment and work area cleanliness
  • Provide excellent customer service

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Ability to perform physically demanding labor
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus

Required Education and Experience:

  • No prior septic experience required

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

We are a drug-free workplace. Applicants MUST have a clean drug screen, background check and MVR.

Compensation: $15.00 - $17.00/hour

Physical Activity: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing.

Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity Requirements: Employees in this position are required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operates machines, such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, such as carpenter, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.

Working Conditions:

  • Subject to environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • Subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
  • Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.
  • Required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full time. Daily schedules begin at 8am and end at 5pm, but evening and weekend hours are to be expected occasionally. Overtime is common.
  • All Septic Helpers are in an on-call rotation for evenings and weekends (typically every 3rd week).

Travel:

Due to the nature of the industry and this position, daily local travel is required.

Overnight travel is not to be expected.

1-49 miles: 90%

50-100 miles: 10%

100 miles or more: 0%
