Job description

Job Summary
The Grounds Maintenance I is responsible for supporting the upkeep and functionality of the processing facility and surrounding grounds. This role includes assisting with light maintenance and repair tasks, monitoring building systems, and ensuring that equipment and work areas remain safe, efficient, and well-maintained. The position also provides support to other departments as needed to maintain smooth operations within the facility.
Essential Job Functions
May perform some or all of the following:
  • Conduct regular checks of facilities and building systems to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Perform repairs on a wide range of items, including doors, plumbing, roof repairs, patching of concrete, painting, basic carpentry, etc.
  • Work in the air using proper safety equipment and tie-off points.
  • Use hand tools and power tools.
  • Remove snow and ice to maintain safe pathways.
  • Pick up and dispose of bird mortality using farm equipment.
  • Perform general landscaping, including maintaining roads and areas between barns.
  • Move and grade rock for landscaping and maintenance purposes.
  • Operate and maintain farm equipment (payloader, skidloader, tractor, mower, telehandler)
  • Conduct minor vehicle maintenance (e.g., check oil, change tires).
  • Maintain and fill bio-security stations, including power washers.
  • Assist with bale staging and other related tasks.
  • Provide support to other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • 0-2 years of general work experience
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs, as well as reach, bend, twist, and lift above the head. Must be agile and capable of working in both indoor and outdoor environments under various climate conditions.
  • Basic mechanical skills are required to troubleshoot, repair, and replace equipment, including adjusting, troubleshooting and operating and maintaining the irrigation system.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holiday hours as required based on production demand.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Work Environment
The work environment involves both indoor and outdoor settings, requiring the ability to operate effectively in various climate conditions, including inclement weather. The role requires physical activity, such as lifting and moving up to 50 lbs occasionally, and involves reaching, bending, twisting, and lifting above the head. Effective communication skills are necessary, and the position may require working nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
