Description
Mission Contribution: Providing access to fresh food, produce, and meat at reasonable prices with emphasis on providing opportunities to the community in which the market serves.
Summary: In support of the grocery department manager, provide leadership and motivation within the Market on Melrose to ensure consistent world-class customer experience through the superior show of quality and friendly customer service. Assist in training and demonstrate to staff to conduct their job duties in a safe, friendly, and efficient manner.
Essential Functions:
  1. Regularly assess front end conditions through detailed review of cash register units, stands, displays, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and organization are maintained.
  2. Assist department manager with scheduling and management for the grocery department and front end of the store.
  3. Oversee and expect from team members world-class customer service and accurate cash register operations while on the sales floor at all times.
  4. Work in partnership with the department manager to maintain cash accountability records and monitoring as required by company policies and procedures.
  5. Develop a thorough knowledge of department products and their location to answer customer questions and provide product recommendations.
  6. Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations to include all safety guidelines required by Goodwill, the Market on Melrose, and all safe food handling requirements. Report any team members not in compliance.
  7. Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures. Report any team members not in compliance.
  8. Insist upon a customer-focused environment, ensuring that all customers receive outstanding service, and that the store is recognized for excellence in customer experience, using the tag line "Thank you for choosing the Market on Melrose" at every opportunity.
  9. Resolve customer complaints and issues promptly, maintaining a professional and friendly store atmosphere.
  10. Effectively train and develop team members, acting as a resource for their roles.
  11. Support department manager with interviews, hiring decisions, and assist with onboarding and training of newly hired team members.
  12. Attend training sessions, meetings, and company-related events as required.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from supervisors, team members, and customers.
  • Basic mathematical proficiency, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, team members, and diverse internal and external customers.
  • Positive and friendly attitude, contributing to a collaborative work environment and enhancing team morale.
  • Solid understanding of grocery store operations
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • One year or more of customer service experience.
  • Stocking, grocery store, or other relevant work experience preferred.
  • Prior leadership of people preferred.

Special Requirements:
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen prior to employment.
  • A background check required during employment based on company policy or specific job responsibilities.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to provide proof of insurance is required to drive personal vehicle on company business. Additionally, an acceptable motor vehicle record based on Goodwill guidelines is required to drive a company vehicle.
